We might need another expedition to Hearne to get a High Power fix.

I assume it is now too late in the season for Asa as crops have commenced?

Yeah Asa done for the season

If I get desperate enough to fly I might find my way down to Hearne. Anybody else willing to make a trip down there?

A group of us DARS folks that were HP starved went to Hearne last July and had a great time. I would do it again. I did drop a HPR in the runway with some minor road rash. Field is really best with the wind out of the south. I would probably not fly there with a northerly wind of more than 5-8 mph.

Got to pay the rent!

I just got off the phone with the land manager down in Prairie Hill and he was very receptive to the club having HIGH POWER LAUNCHES at the air strip. Jack and I are going down in a few weeks to meet with him and check out the field. This would be a year round field for us so keep your fingers crossed!

Here it is on the map

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, oh boy... Dare I even dream of sparkies off the runway?

Yay I really hope this works out. We really need a high power launch. Do you know what the waiver would be and what size motors we could fly?

From aerials this looks like a sweet place to fly. Permeable areas around the strip look reasonably maintained and nearby trees don't seem over the top. Nice!

Hot damn!!! Hopefully Dorchester or Prairie Hill works out. I won't jinx us by wishing for both of them to come through.

But, that would be sooooo nice.

They are even far enough apart that weather effects (soil/vegetation too dry or too wet) could be different. Oh the dream.

By the time DARS has a high power launch I'll be doing level one and two in one day.

Prairie Hill is not all that far from Asa.......we might luck out and get the same waiver, or a very similar one.

Yeah, I'm thinking 10k to 15k well within reason. I won't say 20k over time, but then again I just did :).

This is an awesome development! I hope it works out. If not, I did some driving around south of lake Benbrooke a few weeks ago. There are some wide open rolling pastures down there with almost no trees or other structures. No land owner contacts at this point, but looked like a near by (for us in Fort Worth) target field rich area just outside the DFW airspace.

Ha ! I was waiting for the foot to come up without the boot. :)

Frisco got a good soaking this morning. Saturday's rain forecast has improved a little but the winds will blow...

We are going to try and fly on Saturday in Frisco. A little mud, a little wind, Scouts, Indian Guides, reefed chutes, and streamers. Yeah Buddy ! Hoping for better conditions next weekend (or the next, or the next) is kind of a crap shoot this time of year. We'll be sweatin' soon enough. :)

Are any of you going to NARAM?

That thread in the yard sale is killing me (https://www.rocketryforum.com/showthread.php?133469-Gigantic-Collection-of-Rocket-Motors-for-sale). There are some motors in there I would love to have and launch (FSI F7 & F100, Ellis Mountain G20, Vulcan G80, AT 18 mm E-45 just to name a few), but he can't ship. Therefore if you are going to NARAM, and are willing to carry a package back please let me know.

I'm betting Pyrobob (and likely others) would like some of that stuff too if we can identify a courier.

Thanks,
Chris

I am about 90% certain of going to NARAM. Only question is condition of my van at that point in time.

Glad to help out any DARS member that wants something brought back, assuming I make it.

My little kiddo and I are going to try and make it. He's been askin me to launch "rocketships" for the last few days.

I'll take you up on that. If you don't go I'm sure some other north texan will, so I'll take my chances. I'm trying to work out a purchase, but stuff is going fast if you want something act quickly.

EDIT: There are some old motors with my name on them in Missouri. I guess I'll get to try out that NAR expired motor testing program, or I'll just join Tripoli too. I have had rocket dreams of getting to fly a black powder F7 and F100. I now get 3 chances at each (yes, I know I may just CATO 6 times, these will be semi-sacrificial rockets built for the task).
