We had to put down our 17yr old Geni this last week. She'd been on meds for arthritis and asthma for many years. After we returned from a weekend away, she stopped eating, drank a ton, and started to hide out (multiple clues). The vet told us she was now diabetic and could be treated (for thousands a month), but the rest of her body might not hold out either.
We made the decision and got the kids through it. We now have a new adoptee from the Humane society. Molly is a 6mo. old grey tabby that is unbelievably loving, playful, and tolerant of the kids. She should fit right in... At least once our other (3yr. old calico Sadie) gets past wanting to kill her. The introductions are going slowly, but much better than the start. They should be good in another week or two.
