This past Saturday (28 Oct 2006), three members of SEARS 572 (Greg "LaneKG" Lane, John "I'm not on TRF" Hansel, and myself) traveled to Elberta, Alabama to assist with a Webelos Scout Rocket Rally, on the property of a local skydiving club. The Scouts participating had built Quest Starhawks, and flew them individually to compete for trophies for the highest altitude on an A8-3 motor. Fourteen of them also got to mass-launch their Starhawks on our 24-pad launcher. You can find photos for the event at https://sears572.com/gallery/2006-10-28?page=1 .

One of the Dads at the launch, Mark Clabaugh, emailed me some of the photos he took; he's mailing a CD to me with all of his photos. One of the coolest (in my opinion) photos he sent me was of my PML Explorer blasting off on an Aerotech G79W/L LMS ("loadable") motor. Take a look at a zoomed-in copy of the photo at https://sears572.com/gallery/2006-10-28/Scouts_Rocket_Derby_2006049zoom ; you can click on the photo to zoom in even closer.

Look to the right of the rocket.

That's a great shot. I can see the red plastic cap on the right. Must have bounced off of the blast deflector.

Looks like it was a fun afternoon with the Webelos. I hope everyone had loads of fun.

I often wondered what happened to those caps...I thought mine just vaporized... :)

Now I know that they fly along with the rocket...
