I am thinking of building an upscale Cool Spool (25"/5.5"). I'm thinking of building the rings using foam core construction with a 3/8 plywood skeleton and fiberglass outer layer. The body tube would most likely be a 5.5 inch loc tube with a 9.6 oz fiberglass sleeve.

Has anyone done anything like this before, or does anyone have any tips.

Just be cautious of too much weight. If it's heavy enough and uses L2 motors, you should probably have a recovery system other than tumble recovery like the early originals.

Right now it's looking like it would way about 20 ish pounds without the motor (probably a 3 grain 75. For recovery I'm planning on using a couple in the airframe/central tube with a bulk plate as a make-shift nosecone.
