Hello All,

Tripoli San Diego assembled to break ground and fly High Power Rocketry in Holtville CA last weekend.

Many TRFers were there as well :

WeFly2
Exactimator
AFischer
KenRico

Hope that others present will post some pictures and flights as well, as I at least chatted with one more TRFer that I missed above.

Here is Greg Smiths video highlighting a few of the flights in a unique way :

Here is Annies Mega Der Purple Max - flown on a H400 vMax !

It is featured in Gregs video above about half way through - I was surprised to see MACH diamonds in the flame of this Estes Clone.

This is great! Some of these frames are 'money shots' should we attempt another calendar. Sorry I wasn't there for the inaugural flights in our new assigned site. I stopped in Vegas for a little business on the way home and then checked out Jean Lake for SpringFest next year. Gotta go as I missed WinterFest this year. Funny how you can go 'full circle' as we used to race in Holtville back in the day. There is still a video on UTube with Super V's and even then the track was tuff on tyres. I'm volunteering to help go see if we can recover your JART from the lumpy terrain. I'll bring radios. Looks like trackers or at least sonic beacons are the order of the day out there. Now the runway just represents an added thrill and danger element to landing...hope I don't drop anything from 7k on it like I did at Plaster-it's gotta hurt way more than the shredded playa we had. Core samples of concrete mite scratch up even CF birds!

MIA - WM 5 inch Jart

last seen wearing an expensive Wildman Frock, 50" Recon Red and Blue evening wear with a shabby looking Dr Rockets (anodizing shot) 54/1706 scuffed up Stiletto pump . Last seen taking a ride with her wicked friend Propellant X.

Last seen descending so gracefully to the SW of the launch site as the sun was setting in the West .

That is just so sad.....

Looks like I gotta get serious about building up those Eggfinder TRS units.

Although the pavement is a small percentage of the area, I still managed to land a rocket on it Saturday. We might need to start outfitting with larger chutes.

Ken, we'll find your JART at the January launch when we have plenty of light.

Glad to hear you have a HPR site again! Plaster Blaster was such a great time! Can you tell me what the waiver currently is, I didn't find it on the club website. Your new site is just about as close to get to as some of the other AZ sites, I look forward to making a visit soon.
Thanks
Kevin

It's 10,000 feet.

Once we get established and give the FAA a little time, the plan is to request call-ins for higher altitude.

Too bad you guys had no announcements about this on your Tripoli San Diego Website. I just spent a week in San Diego and was in town over that weekend. I checked the website to see if anything was going on, because I wanted to introduce my nephew to rockets and take my dad to a HPR launch if possible. We didn't see any organized launches listed, so instead my Dad and I pulled out his old rocket stash and repaired about 9 LPR rockets --- took my nephew out to Fiesta Island and flew them all after my nephew got out of school on day. We all had a great time --- nine perfect flights and recoveries with no losses or damage, despite windy conditions. But I would have loved to show them some of the bigger birds too.

https://www.tripolisandiego.org/launchschedule.html and https://www.tripolisandiego.org/launchsite.html were both updated before the launch, though the home page is out of date.
As it says on the web site, most announcements are made on the TRA-SD mailing list.

BTW, flying on Fiesta Island is illegal without a permit. https://www.sandiego.gov/fire/pdf/rocketry.pdf Sorry, this is SoCal.

Sorry we missed you.

Mike, the launch schedule page is not updated --- https://www.tripolisandiego.org/launchschedule.html. The page is showing 2013 and 2014 dates, and the last launch on the page is June 6 - 8. I don't really follow the San Diego club's activities, but I thought I'd heard the club had lost its field or something, so I figured launches had ceased after June while the search for a new home was underway. Oh well, this isn't the only club that has an out-of-date website and requires you to be on the mailing list to know what is happening. I've run into that with some of the clubs near me.

I told my Dad that I thought a permit was required for Fiesta Island, but he wanted to have a launch with my nephew while I was in town and figured he could plead Grandpa Ignorance if we attracted any attention. It was a slow midweek afternoon, and no one seemed to take any notice. There was a fire truck driving along the road when my nephew was crossing the street with a rocket in hand, trailing the parachute. I thought maybe we would get asked whether we had permission from the Fire Marshal, but no. I advised my dad he should hook up with a club if he and my nephew want to pursue the hobby.

Mike, the launch schedule page is not updated...
You're absolutely right, I apologize. We did update the directions to the launch site but not this one. Will fix that ASAP.

On Fiesta, I'm glad you no one noticed you. Sorry to be oversensitive but we almost lost the site a few years back when an unaffiliated group used it without permission. The local NAR section regularly has launches there -- see https://www.dartrocketry.org which is up to date.

Thanks. I'll forward the link to the NAR club info to my Dad. We had a great time, and my nephew seemed to really enjoy the launch. Now that all the rockets are fixed up, my Dad and Nephew may want to launch on a regular basis.

Aww TB! I was out of town for a week-dang it! Fiesta is basically under DART (Diego Area Rocket Team NAR #317) and is our sister org to the HPR crowd. We've happily blended the two but they are distinctly different clubs. A lot of us here belong to both, as it's great fun to help out with the Scouts, TARC and school kids' field trips. It's also the site of our world famous Over-the-Line tournament, so we have a smoking hole in our schedule the middle of summer. We used to be able to test there (with the surrounding water hazard in mind!) but now we are capped at 1500' due to air traffic. Truly sorry I missed meeting a brother from a different mother! You ever get back this way-PM me and we'll do a micro brewery hop! (Pun intended!) Glad you weren't hassled by the Park and Wreck gomers!

I'll definitely let you know next time I am down that way. We weren't expecting to do this trip, but a hole opened up in our work schedule, so we booked some last-minute seats on Southwest and stayed with my parents for a week --- impromptu low-budeget vacation.

Here is my flight of a Wildman Shape Shifter on a CTI J330 to 5840'. This is the first rocket launching in Greg's video
