Just thought of this and I like it so I write it down in case someone has the time, skill and budget to actually work on this.

Sounds interesting. Could even by done by a single drone with a hook, and the drone needn't be a quadcopter, could be any UAV.

When spy satellites were first used, they would actually eject a film canister which would re-enter the atmosphere, pop a 'chute, and be snagged by a passing airplane with a hook.
