So i'm thinking of use side ejection on the booster section of a 2 stager, but I have no idea how its done. like, how is the hatch cover held onto the rocket? how do you shield the parachute from ejection charge?

If your hatch cover is hinged at the top, I would think that it would protect the parachute from the sustainer's force. Of course you could always use a baffle of sorts.

Here are some pics of my cannon in the Grain Bin. Located at CG so it comes down horizontal. Shows anchor point, cap, which stays in place just through the expert fitting of it :) Then shows installed and where it comes out the side.

Its going on a 54mm first stage with a 38mm motor mount, if that helps at all.
