Click on the links below for details on the Model Rocket competition being held at the Columbia memorial Space Center in Downey CA on July 30, 2011. The CMSC is located on the site of the former North American Aviation/ Rockwell International/Boeing plant where the Apollo command and service modules were built as well as the Space Shuttle Orbiter crew module, forward fuselage and aft fuselage.

The competition is based upon NAR competition but somewhat simplified. The events are extremely easy for anyone to participate in and there are many Estes and Quest kits that will perform quite well in the competition.

Members of the Southern California Rocket Association (NAR Section 430) will be staffing a booth to provide additional information on Model Rocketry, encourage membership in the NAR and pass out ‘first flight’ certificates to those completing their first Model Rocket launch. We may also launch a few demonstration models throughout the day as time permits.

If you need kits for the competition, check out the Hobby People stores (closest one is in Lakewood on South St and Bellflower Blvd) which carries Estes kits, Hobby Warehouse at South St and Lakewood Blvd which carries Quest kits (if the kit you want is not on the shelf, they can get it quickly from the local distribution warehouse), and Michaels Craft which carries Estes kits located just north of the CMSC in the Downey Landing shopping center. A large variety of Estes and Quest kits are also available from eHobbies.com, so check out their website https://www.ehobbies.com
