I am a member of an undergraduate rocket club, currently working on a KNSB rocket to go to 30,000' and going Mach 2. One of the requirements of the competition we are entering is that the rocket be in relaunchable condition (minus propellant) 30 minutes after recovery. We are worried about damage to the fins from high flight temps and speeds, as well as impact with the ground. What methods can be used to quickly repair the surface finish of the fins? Anyone have experience making/flying easily replaceable fins? We're considering using a dovetail-type joint at the base of the fin with screws fixing it in place.
