Howdy Ya'll Pardners,

Here's a fresh baked link to my new build project:

https://www.drsuesrocketworks.com/MysteryXProject1.html

This time I'm not tellin' ya what its gonna be, so as not
to spoil your suspense...

Lets see who can guess the closest how she's gonna look like.
Being scratch built, she's got looks of her own, but the styling clues are clearly visible...
One guess per day per person, lets see how good you are...

All who attended the last THOR club launch, and actually saw this
contraption fly - please no spoilers....
:p

Enjoy !

Is it the rocket from- planet of the apes?

I think it was called the Icarus<sp>

Is it the 117 A Night Hawk?
By the way i liked your solaris. How did you build the tail of that rocket?

'Is it the 117 A Night Hawk?'

Nope, more earth bound....

'Is it the 117 A Night Hawk?'

Nope, but getting slightly warmer...

'By the way i liked your solaris. How did you build the tail of that rocket?'

I cut off the nosecone tip at 1.875" and slotted it for fins,
and glued the prebuilt MMT / CR assembly in it with 'Guerilla
Glue'... Installed fins and one of my usual 29mm retainer
made of kitchen sink p-trap parts (cost less than $5.-)...

Hm, guess my gues for the day is gone, try again next day.

You have to help me there with the lingo...
I am relatively new to the hobby (building estes rockets and looking at the big kids), what is MMT / CR? Motor MounT and then CR?
And p trap parts?

Sorry Heut,

Its Motor Mount Tube / Centering Ring(s) assembly,
and yes Victoria, they really are kitchen sink p-trap
parts from Homer Teapot or Lowe's or ye...

There's one 1 1/4" sink tailpiece extension part (~ $1.50)
and one 1 1/4" 'Chrome plated slip joint nut' (~ $1.50) from plumbing dept plus one 1" E-clip (2 for ~ $1.25) from hardware dept.

If you fly 24mm reloads with an adapter, you can even use the plastic slip joint nut that comes with tailpiece extension, but 29mm hobby (G64) and high power motors burn long and hot enough to melt it so you need either the heat resistant gray plastic one used in electrical conduit connections thats quite a bit lighter, or the chinese potmetal one thats heavier but looks oh sooooo sweet...

One day I'll do a build thread on that retainer....

Thanks a lot.

Since i am pretty new to this country i am unfamiliar with the pLumbing jargon. But i have built a sprinkler system, but it never occured to me that using sewer parts would help a rocket fly better
Thansk for the tip!

You should catch the episode of Mythbusters on Discovery Channel where they built a hybrid-motor rocket out of plumbing parts.

"And cut open the body tube to see
whats inside... Dang, its empty !"

ROTFLMAO!

:p

'XB-70 Valkrye'

AAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaRRRrrggggGGGHhhHHhhh......

You got me... Yes, its based on the great XB-70 Valkyrie,
shoulder wing canards, twin tail and all.... Not a six engine cluster thou....

What gave it away ?

Can't wait to see how this one turns out.

I'm honored to have the remaining XB-70 about half an hour from my house at the US Air Force Museum, so if you need pics for detail or anything else, LMK!

Ditto! I love standing behind that thing and just looking at the all those engines! Reminds me of the opening scene of Spaceballs - just needs the "I Brake for No One" sticker...

Man, I can't wait to see this thing. Sue - you're awesome!

Yep that is a very beautiful plane!
When is the next update on the web?

I thought you were launching a pan flute as played by Zamfir!

"so I'll settle for
just 4x18mm cluster,
plus the 24mm main
of course..."

:D

I must say that IS impressive! Excellent work.

Woah!!! Awesome flights! I love how quick it moved out with the F39!:D

Sims from 350' on single D12-3 thru 1300'+ on F39
and ~1600' on the full stack...

And it was way up there, almost outta sight...

One day I'll hope to strike it rich enough for a decent
camcorder, these videos are made with $40.- Aipteks,
and it shows.... :p

Now I have to come up with a paint scheme....

How about this pattern/color on the top and sky blue on the bottom.

Ummm.....

Now I know why you've lost so many rockets lately....
:D

Sue,

Sweet looking bird!! Can't wait to show Mags this one. Awesome project, love the way you cut the wings into the body tube, gives a truer profile. I've seen your previous artwork so I'm not going to suggest a thing. I'll just sit here and wait until the masterpiece on display to the public.:)

Congrats on another beautiful build and an awsome flight! The vids look fine from here.

Tom and Mags:D :D

Yea guys,

I got to see this fly both on the F39 as well as the clustered setup, and its great both ways!!

Hmm, somethings telling me to make one of these.........much bigger.......and of course, glide?
