Hello! I am building the Hyperloc 835 for my level 2 cert, but I’ve run into some issues. For starters, the instructions are awful. The worst I have ever seen, and I’m likely never ordering from Loc Precision again because of this.
My first issue is with the centering rings and bulkhead assembly.
In many threads I’ve seen on here about the 835, they all have 3 normal centering rings for the MMT, and a fourth bulkhead ring that has a 38mm hole, rather than a 54mm hole. My kit did not come with this. Instead it came with 2 normal centering rings, another 54mm centering ring, but it has a small drilled hole in the wood (it also came with an eye-bolt assembly), and then a solid bulkhead plate with a small drilled hole in the middle (also comes with eyebolt assembly. Photos are below
There’s two parts to this issue. In the instructions, it says: “11. Epoxy the shock cord mounting ring assembly 3.5” from the top of the main airframe taking care to insure the eyebolt is facing up.”
Like I said above, though, there is no 38mm mounting ring. Am I supposed to epoxy the bulkhead assembly in there instead? Also, 3.5 inches is not far down enough as the coupler is 9” long, and half of it (4.5”) needs to go into the airframe. I also need to make room for the drogue chute, which adds extra space.
I’m also worried about the bulkhead being used. Because there’s no hole in it, no ejection charge can push the rocket apart. Am I supposed to cut a 38mm hole into the middle of the bulkhead, and then drill another hole into the side of the bulkhead for the eyebolt? Or could I possibly epoxy the bulkhead assembly to the
This isn’t everything, though, I have another issue with the instructions.
Steps 6 and 7 say: “Make a mark 11” from the aft end of the MMT along the airframe and drill the overflow tube hole using a ⅜” drill bit making sure to extend the hole from the outside airframe and into the MMT... Epoxy the inner launch lug through the airframe until it is just touching the inside of the MMT and allow to cure.”
This I’m confused about. Do I put the launch lug into the hole drilled in step 6? I only have two launch lugs as well, which were small tubes with a diameter of a little over an inch. I’m confident these aren’t the lugs talked about in step 7, but there’s nothing else in the kit that could go into that hole. It’s even weirder since step 13 talks about how to put the launch lugs on the side of the rocket. But step 16 then goes on to say “Seal the LLs with sanding sealer using a brush.”
I’m not going to use the launch lugs provided though, I’m going to use rail buttons. So what do I do with the launch lugs given to me, and do they need to go into the rocket as said in step 7? Or is this all for a hybrid motor (not using that)?
I really don’t know what to do
