Way off topic, but should be should fit here... Why are there a bunch of Egyptologists, but no Romanologists, or Aztecologists or Mongulologists? What is sooo special about Egypt?

Because the Early Dynastic Period was contemporary with early Sumerian-Akkadian, thus predating the Greeks and Romans by almost three millenia; but by the time the Aztecs and Mongols showed up we hadn't been able to read heiroglyphs for almost five centuries, and still couldn't up until the 1820's.

So in English you are saying because it is the oldest of the civilizations, goes back to 3100BC? Thank you for that insight. Still doesn't answer why those studying ancient Greek civilization aren't called Greekologists.

Ancient Greece and the Roman Empire is the Western civilizations’ (Europe’s) own ancient, written history so its called “the classics”. “Classicist” is sometimes used.

Maybe current Egyptians studying ancient Greece do have a word for “a current Egyptian studying Greek history”. But it wouldn’t be an English word (or of any European-based language).

Mummies and pyramids are just awesome.

I was fortunate enough to go inside the Great Pyramid at Giza. Really nothing in it, but still cool.
