Clear coat for balsa?

My current builds use a lot of balsa. Balsa nosecone, balsa fins, balsa boat tail. I've also started on an all balsa build, with no paper body tube.
I think wood is beautiful. Balsa isn't bird's eye maple or French walnut, but I bet it would look nice with a clear coat and no paint.
I was just wondering if anyone else has done that? A white body tube with clear coat balsa on either end might look nice.

I've used Spar Urethane.

A layer of glassing resin & a really light cloth can do both: leave a wood finish & add some strength..
