I’m planning on building and using the new Eggtimer Quasar on my L2 attempt, but only want to use it for the altimeter and the GPS. I see there are sleds that do not have a cover and the electronics are mounted on that and attached to the nose cone for this purpose I would prefer to keep mine protected; but am not using it for deployment. Should I buy a e-bay that is for the next size down and mount it in there? I guess it would sit on top of the chute during the launch? Or am I being too protective
 
I use the Eggtimer Quark and GPS mini without ebays.
For these I use a piece of a 24mm coupled tube and bulkhead end caps. Two thin ring are on the coupler tube to hold a tie wrap to the shock cord..

The new Quasar would need a 29mm coupler tube. If your rockets BT is large enough (probably is for L2 cert flight) then this is a good way to go.
