Found this at an art supplies re-use place in Boulder, Colorado, USA (Arts Parts).

Paid about $1.00US.

It is strong, but light and not bulky. Doesn’t come unraveled. I am using it on a couple of LPR plastic parachutes.

“J&P Coats (Canada) Limited”

“Art No N609”

4000 yards, “GW”. Size 50. White.

A Google search didn’t turn up much on this. Maybe it is darning and mending thread? But then why would it be on this big, industrial size spool?

Anyway, if you see a spool of this thread in your wanderings, I encourage you to pick it up. Good stuff for shroud lines.

J&P Coats could be decades old. For reliable supply today, this is good stuff:

Cotton exterior gives it heat resistance and good knot holding, polyester interior gives it strength and elasticity.

You can also get rolls in different colors and make each shroud loop a different color. Nice for decoration if you're into that, and also helps see what's what to keep the lines all neat and organized.

ETA: Jo-Ann Fabrics often has blanket discount coupons, free shipping, etc. Stuff gets cheap if you shop carefully.
