Anyone using more the 30’ for their apogee harness in a DD configuration on a L2?

Anyone using more the 30’ for their apogee harness in a DD configuration on a L2 rocket?
Specifics: 4” FG airframe, ~15 lbs, 5’ long, 3600 lb kevlar

yep, I've seen anywhere from 25 to 50, but 50 seems pretty long.

5 ft longer then the tallest tree, right ?? lol..

The harnesses length is dictated by the two separate pieces weight...
The heavier the rocket the longer you make the harness...
At 15 lbs I'd go with 25 ft in the booster.....

30--40ft. in the rockets with room, BUT there are 90-120ft pines around edge of field.

I found 2TALL trees last summer. Shoot fishing lead sinker, tied to spin cast reel, with a wrist rocket [slingshot] over the top. Drag a heavier line up& over, then pull rocket free.
Sounds easy..it took 3 hours.

I almost cut that ba$tard down, but it must have been 100-140yrs old, 3-4ftdiameter trunk.. It made power poles look like toothpicks. Took 220ft of lineman rope to go up & back.
I thought of all the hurricanes it survived, forest fires, bugs, birds & mites.
I just couldn't do it...Karma might have come back to bite me for cutting down nature's masterpiece for a stupid fiberglass rocket.[even though it had 2000 bucks worth of test electronics in it]


So yes, stick as much cord in there ya can East Coast boys!!!!!!

PS Teddy sells ''shock cord stretcher" for those that already installed shorter lengths!!!!!
Ask him about the cord stretcher special going on.

I used a 30' long harness in my L2 Shadow, but it wasn't one continuous length. I use about a 20' harness in Death Punch.

I used 70 feet of harness on my Wildman extreme, and as a result it wrapped over a tree causing it to get stuck

I've never seen a rocket land in a tree where extra cord helped. There is always some breeze so as soon as the booster section stops or slows, the upper section drapes across the top of the tree. The longer the cord, the more trees it gets draped across.
My 4" 10 lb. 95" high L2 has 15ft of cord on the apogee and 12 ft on the main side.

My 4" Tyrannosaur, 10 lbs, has 15 foot in booster and 12 foot in payload. Some folks say you need longer cord to bleed energy, some say you need it because of trees. A longer harness also means the section will have farther to fall and gain energy before hitting the end. There are arguments both ways.
This week's reason for longer harnesses appears to be trees.
Longer cord in a drogueless setup makes since to keep the pieces well apart and help slow things a bit.

While we are on this topic may I ask something related? How are you guys and gals rigging your dual deployment rockets? I have a Wildman Sandhawk stashed in a corner for this reason due to a lack of experience with dual deploy. Photos of setups would be nice. Or external references. It came with no manual on rigging it properly.

I've only ever flown dual deploy twice, with the same scratch built rocket. The first time I forgot to attach the chutes, but there was no damage.
The second time was successful. I've found that dual deploy isn't my thing, it's too fiddly. And now with a chute release, it's really not necessary for me.

The rocket I built with 2.6" Blue Tube, so there wasn't a lot of room inside. I kept the av-bay simple, with only one altimeter, and a forged eyebolt on each end. I used 1/4" Kevlar for the harnesses, and 2-56 nylon screws for the shear pins. I have a very long build thread for it, but here are some of the highlights.
