I just got an old dryer from the Mother-in-law. It has a 4 wire plug. Outlet is 3 wire. We got the new 3 wire plug....now...how do we wire it in?

4 weird is 3 phase, which is weird for residential... but not compatible with single phase.

4 wires is normal. 2 hot, neutral, ground. 3 wire outlets share neutral and ground. You can remove a cover where the cord goes in and swap the cord out. There's probably a diagram under the cover.

Thanks for the help, we got it :) No sparks and despite my dropping the dryer twice it works fine :)
