Got my schwag today! Great service! And so relieved to not have to search high and low for Q2G2s.

Thank you, CJ!

Had some time to test the lighters I received before Christmas. I am using a 25C 7.4V LiPo Battery and Stratologger SL100.

Thank you, CJ!

Yeah many of these went to those who could not find any Q2's & they are much cheaper!

Hey CJ, Bring me some to next launch. They look great!

Will do Eric.

I will be at WinterNational G.R.I.T.S. with these, for those in need.

DISCLAIMER: MANY of you have dealt with me in the past & know how fast my turn around times are. If you are new and wonder about me, look up under good/bad buyers thread at top of page.

Gottem today well wrapped & quickly shipped, thanks Jim! Why would you pay a buck apiece for Q2g2 igniters? I musta have been zombified. 9V fires them off like a ladyfinger firecracker. Although I wouldn't want to confess to lighting any ladyfingers on this forum. Even if they are legal. Those are dangerous and not Family friendly.

Got mine today too. Heavy little package with lot's of goodies in it. Mail lady asked me what was in it and I told her rocket parts. Turned into quite a conversation! Anyway, thanks for the stuff CJ, great stuff and great service.

PS. Try to stay warm down there, hope it gets better for G.R.I.T.S!

Fastest shipping ever! Thanks CJ!

Tested one out....pretty sure that'll do it/

The following is a sequence of photos taken during testing of CJ's Small Motor Lighter.

The starter is positioned ~1" forward of the grid shown. The 2 columns each side of the center are 1.25", all other grid squares are 1.0"

Jim,

I did some high speed photography at 240 fps. I will work on putting them up over the next couple weeks.

Yours went out today & 5 others going out tomorrow!

I used 4 of them yesterday to light a cluster.... it was gone in a nano-second. 1-54 & 3 -38's.

Will you be at Red Glare?

Be careful, I do not know what's in the formulation, but maybe if mag and teflon is in there those fumes contain HF which is extremely hazardous to your health if you breathe it.

CJ, great work but please say warn us if there happens to be any florine compounds in that igniter (in lieu of an MSDS).

--john

BKNO3....... NO Teflon....[maybe a trace of mag, just like food packages that say may be peanut residue on machinery used to manufacture].

"It is used in many military devices, automotive gas air bag cartridges and other industrial use. This commercially produced igniter composition is [my secret sauce]? % Boron for reliable ignition of most any pyrotechnic mixture."

My exact casting process took many trial & tribulations to get a hobby size usable unit that is reproducible time after time ....... but these things rock!

Edit: at GRITS we lit 2 green 38mm KBA's from 2007 [J-740's 7yrs old & crusty looking grains] pretty darn quick.

Jim,

I know that you had mentioned motor starters and beta testing some a while back. I looked back at the first post and I noticed that you haven't listed them for sale. Will you be?

Info on them available via PM request............ I did send you one.LOL

Those motor starters are some quality looking things. I can't wait to start using them.

On a related note B(NO3)3! That is about the highest %w nitrate salt I can think of, a whole lot of energy looking for an excuse.

I am just wondering if any information has been released on your motor starters. I see in previous posts reference to small, medium, and large ones, but have not seen any prices on them as of yet. Also, what range of motors do each work best in? I am looking for some reliable and afordable ones that range 24mm thru 38mm.
Jeff

What is the size of the "head" of the lighter?

Sent from my iPhone using Rocketry Forum

I don't have a set of calipers ...... if some one would care to measure & post.....please do.

Why is this critical?

The heads are typically the same size as a paper match head. These are considered "standard"size. Certainly NOT the teeny tiny size CTI uses for single grain motors, if that's where you are going with this. I have no idea where those come from.
They are known to fit all cable cutters and tether type deployment devices, as stated throughout the previous posts in this thread.

Finally there are 5 sizes of lighters discussed here, which one are you referring to?

2 ejection....... fits any thing known to date.
short 11.5 in head is a tad smaller than long

long 40 in head is virtually same size as paper match found in any matchbook

3 motor....... small medium large. All of these are designed to fit the appropriate nozzles of motor they would be used in.

Small E F G H

Medium high power G H I J short K

Large J K L M N

thanks its because I wanted to know if they will fit through the tubing I am using for the igniter going from the E-Bay to the sustainer motor on my 2 stage rocket. sounds like it should fit no problem:)

It doesn't have to fit.

You always thread the wire end through the conduit....NOT the head end!

And in some cases where the wire diameter is a problem, use shooter wire in conduit to the timer/altimeter, splice/solder a short lead & head to conduit wire & insert into motor.
