I kid you not, I was having TRF dreams.

So I figured I'd stop by. Hows everyone been? Did I really miss NERRF this year? I went into the basement and dusted off a little bit of my workbench today. I guess I've got a few months to get everything back in working order. -Omar

Big Borealis - 3" upscale of the Fliskit

This is gonna have to hop on the back burner for a bit, I got dragged into being the DP for a friend's movie.

What was your age when you started rocketry?

I think I was 8, my parents bought me a Helicat starter kit. Earliest documented is a picture from when I was 10 with me shoving my Estes python up my nose.

Big Borealis - 3" upscale of the Fliskit

I'm gonna rebuild the entire thing with 8 or 9" dowels, with plywood supports on both sides, so I can work on glassing all 3 at once. ... and wrap those dowels in wax paper or the like.

Big Borealis - 3" upscale of the Fliskit

A lot of the epoxy snuck around the sides and glued the inner wall of the ring to the motor tubes. I got it removed by breaking the entire template thing, so I'll have to rebuild it differently. The ring itself is okay, I'm gonna try and put the next layer of glass on without it being...

Big Borealis - 3" upscale of the Fliskit

Gluing the strips together. At this point I roughed up both sides of the ply to make the glass stick better. Pulled both sides and clamped them tight to the circle, then glued together the ends and clamped those down with a piece of wood to apply even-ish pressure. After the 5 minute...

Big Borealis - 3" upscale of the Fliskit

Got some work done today, finally got all the wood and parts. Sorta experimenting with a way to make the 9" tube fins. I'm proud I managed to measure something with a ruler and not a photoshop template. Putting some spent BP motors to work. Glued down with 5 minute...

What is your rocket bucket list?

    1. More creative projects, especially high power ones. Spring loaded doodads and thingamajigs on larger rockets. Also staging & airstarts. 2. A video project, narrative movie, or an online series/sitcom type thing for the rocket community. I've been throwing that Idea around for the last few...

Messed Up Marvin's Wild Ride. BIG TIME

So a section got glued to another section? I'm guessing a coupler to a BT? If you can cut the coupler or reach into it, try unraveling it from the inside. Once that's gone you can sand down the BT and replace the coupler.

Big Borealis - 3" upscale of the Fliskit

Jim showed me the Borealis kit this year at NERRF and I had one of those immediate attractions to it, kinda like when a pretty girl walks in a room, except the girl is made of cardboard and balsa. Bought the kit, built it overnight at the hotel, and flew it the next morning. Anyway, in an...

    Can Cords Be TOO Long?

Unless you've got 800 feet of cord, and your main is popping at 800, you cant have too much. For the two 4" rockets I have that I've flown D/D, I've always gone drogueless. Good luck!

Fully Flared - (almost) Fully Fiberglass Four Inch Mad Dog

The flight up was perfect up to 3245', the nosecone wiggled off a little early so I'm gonna add some shear pins for the next flight. It landed on the other side of the river, everything intact... and no scratches on the paint job! Thanks for the washer and the help btw, I'll email Steve or...

    Who Is Right?

At least they know the laws in your state. Last year in NY they raised the spray paint age to 21 for about two weeks. Mark Ecko (ecko clothing guy) sued the city, somehow won, and they changed it back to 18. Problem is that nobody knows they changed it back!

Mesurement between mounting holes on new RRC2

I'm have an altimeter sled designed for the old RRC2, but I'm picking up a new one at a launch tomorrow. Gotta have the holes drilled ahead of time. Can anyone get me a few measurements? Thanks

Fully Flared - (almost) Fully Fiberglass Four Inch Mad Dog

In total so far 5. This is a good feeling... Cant decide if I want to stencil the logo or get a vinyl decal made. That all depends on whether or not I can get a high enough resolution image of it. I might want to do something different with the Nosecone, most likely not though...
