    Smallest size electronics payload ever!?

Yes, eventually, but right now i'm focussing on some other MUCH more complex designs- like the HD camera, and other cool things. I tested the 8mm dia 3F supercap. Amazingly, after a 1 minute charge, it can light a xmass tree mini-light for over 30 seconds continuously! there is a smaller 6mm...

Timer MOSFETs - inside or outside the timer PCB

Yes, tons of them - here's a couple of quick examples, theres plenty more out there you can find with a little web research: https://www.nxp.com/#/pip/pip=[pip=SA57000-XX_6]|pp=[t=pip,i=SA57000-XX_6] https://www.analog.com/en/power-management/linear-regulators/adp3300/products/product.html No...

Timer MOSFETs - inside or outside the timer PCB

    a) Not always - that's mostly a problem of the past- use a good modern one and "forgeddaboudit" :) b) if your expecting freezing cold, then don't use crappy caps. duh! ;) c) Come on- how much mass and capacitance are we really talking about? 0.1uF 1uF vs 10uF? i can get either in a 0603 ceramic...

Timer MOSFETs - inside or outside the timer PCB

Quoting myself here: "the point is there is no disadvantage in using a better regulator and no advantage in using a poorer one."

Timer MOSFETs - inside or outside the timer PCB

The other advantage if using a 'modern' regulator is low drop out, which is a major plus in avoiding a MCU brownout condition, especially if the battery is of questionable freshness, when firing the e-matches. it might be nice to have the option of running on a watch battery too, so why not. its...

    Smallest size electronics payload ever!?

Thats correct. 6/8/10g is more than enough to use as a simple G-switch to trigger timers, but not for integrating acceleration and trying to detect apogee from that, unless its a very low-G rocket configuration you have, and you are certain it wont go over the device range limit in acceleration.

Optimal Way To Bevel Fins For Whistle Rockets

Just thinking out loud- it may not be very scientific - i just thought that would make an interesting looking rocket. Leaving small gaps and square edges, all the same - the fly it and see if it whistles. if not, take and xacto knife, file, sandpaper, etc., and start reshaping one of the fin...

    Smallest size electronics payload ever!?

The specs are listed in the manuals which you can download on their website: https://www.picoalt.com/: 40,000' Most barometric altimeters top out between 25k and 50k feet. Above that, air pressure is so low with typical pressure sensors your pressure reading is meaningless anyways because...

    High power video transmitters

In general, you get better range at lower frequency, and narrower bandwidth. Video is inherently wide bandwidth, which doesn't help either. It just means you need a more powerful transmitter.

    high altitude parachute

Depends on the size you need, but these are the lightest for their size: https://www.aeroconsystems.com/chutes/p60in.htm https://www.aeroconsystems.com/chutes/p10ft.html there are other sizes, they are very common and cheap in 3' and 4' sizes - check on ebay. the thin nylon fabric is probably...

    Smallest size electronics payload ever!?

Ok here's a little teaser for the MMX crowd: i just got the last of the component samples that i was waiting on, for the smallest device i want to do. I couldn't resist lining up all the key parts on top of a quarter with a ruler to take a picture and show you just how small this can go. The...

GPS-tracker radio range: how much is enough?

Ok, so i'm thinking it should be made to fit in a 29mm airframe. Does anyone feel it would be really useful to have a GPS tracker smaller than that? If so please give some examples why. I'll be doing the final board design in the next few days, so now's the time to speak up if you have any...

    Smallest size electronics payload ever!?

Thanks for all the replies so far- keep 'em coming! Ok so so far, the sizes picked are pretty even across the board. I wasn't expecting that at all! Especially on the low end of the scale, it's interesting to see there looks to be real interest in the very tiny 13mm and below sizes. SO...

    IRDA for Altimiter config+download?

Well, looks like the people have spoken - IRDA is out, USB is in. Ask and ye shall receiveth :) Too bad though, i thought IRDA was a kinda neat idea. Maybe i'll keep it in the design, there should be enough 'spare' room for a small IRDA xceiver in a corner somewhere. I'll only populate the...

    Estes 40th Anniversary Saturn V

Wow and i thought i was slow! I only started mine around 1981 (give or take a year) If i could get replacements for some of the lost little styrene bits, i might actually finish it this year... or next year....or the year after that..... ;)

Happy Pi Day / Einstein's Birthday

Now look what you've done!- i cant get this idea outta my head;). Oh but i think i've come up with a great recipe idea for the rocket-pie: 2 recycled aluminum foil pie plates (preferably 3.14159 dm dia.) 1x 29mm motor mount tube ( or a cluster of 24mm's) 1 drinking straw (launch lug) simulated...

Whats next, root-two day? :p:rolleyes: That gives me an idea for an oddrock- a flying pie-rocket!:D Now the tough part- deciding what kind of pie- Boston cream, blueberry, or pumpkin? or the old standard, apple?

Optimal Way To Bevel Fins For Whistle Rockets

Great find guys! LOL usually i'm the guy going off to do some quick web research to help some poor lazy or lost soul on the forums, but i was feeling lazy this time- nice to know it works the other way round:D:o:):p So according to what I've just read from those articles, i would expect that...
