This Black Hole is Single deploy with JLCR. I’m going with 18” Top Flite micro light Chute. I’m putting all my bells and whistles into the Omicron. DD, Eggfinder, Quark or maybe my Quantum. 6” drougue and 12” main. Both T F micro light.

I was thinking about going “mostly naked” on my next build, OMICRON. I would carefully pre-think all the epoxy joints and stay clean, then put the graphics on and clear coat. But that’ll be something I’ll need to convince myself of. I have the Quark and the Eggfinder mini going in that one.

I got mine painted before mounting the rail buttons. No biggie. You may have seen my grandson on the Mach1 page for his SCAT. We are loving the kits from Steve Skinner!

Nate, Did you get the positions for your rail buttons from Open Rocket data? I’m about to place mine and I’m just curious.

I’m just slightly ahead of your build. I was able to make a lot of progress during the arctic blast. I had a little touch up to do on the tips of fillets, but all is good now!

As the NC Sled is currently designed, it won’t. But... if I know Steve, he may have a brainstorm and have a solution. But with that much motor, you’ll want the NC sled for a tracker for sure.

I’m thinking aft retention of my 38mm on my Omicron, and using that as my “Going for Gold” with regards to altitude. My Black Hole is 29mm, I’m still undecided about MD retainer or Aeropack. It’ll be my workhorse as I get my Eggfinder Mini and Quarks all sorted.

Correct. This style is designed to be inserted in 5he tube at location you determine based on motor length. There are 3 screws that go thru the tube to hold it firm. This does NOT have a path for ejection gas, so single recovery as usual will not be possible.

SMT Designs has a 38mm Internal motor retainer kit that gives you a Kevlar loop to attach recovery harness.

I believe it will. They’re both the same BT.

My order for Mach1 Omicron went in, has a three week delay (no big issue) I think this is my 38mm MD platform. My Black Hole is going to be my 29mm platform. Between Mach1 and SMT, I think I’m covered. Now to look for the right recovery harnesses at Onebadhawk, and chutes from TFR. UNLESS...

There’s a good idea! I could use my BH as is, 29mm. Then grab an Omicron or such from Mach1 for 38mm once I get bugs worked out, electronics sorted, etc.

Well keep your eyes on SMT DESIGNS as that Steve is working on some awesome things for 38mm and BT60 tubes and nose cones. I’m going to put his coupler bay and nose bay in my Black Hole build.

Good advice! I have plans to put an Eggfinder Mini in the nose. Doing a few lower launches should be wise.

There is a thread in here about the Omicron going 38mm min diameter, I’ve been watching that intently. My Black Hole came with 29mm motor mount and rings, but I’m considering options I think Steve at Mach1 sells parts. If I decided to go 38mm, it’s doable. My big hurdle is to get Level one out...
