    AeroTech Open Thread

I had the same issue with a M2500 (also going to Airfest). I had already glued the grains in place. Karl from AT told me NOT to fly with the FSD not fully seated against the liner. I fabricated a sanding disc from a plywood centering ring and 1/4" bolt into a drill and very very slowly...

How large a parachute can I fit in BT50 body tube?

Make your chute out of a a Mylar space blanket and braided fishing line. I've put a 48" homemade Mylar chute in a BT60 without any trouble with ejection. Instructions on cutting a perfect octagon are here. http://www.uswaterrockets.com/construction_&_tutorials/Parachute/tutorial.htm.

Fin shape in OpenRocket and RockSim

Make your second point with the desired x position and 0.0 as the y position. This moves the starting point lower than the 0x:0y initial point. Handy for modeling fins with a point higher on the BT, than the start of the root edge, as on the HyperBat. .

    AT G64W delays discrepancy

Most gift cards and credit card blanks are about 1/32" thick. If you really want to deal with it, you can use either a spent or out of date card with a holed drilled through the card to provide 1 second increments... Flat non-embossed hotel keys and gift cards are perfect.

    3M Super 77 question please?

I used the 77. Sprayed both the airframe and the wrap. Its been well over a year and they are still on tight.

    Removing a phenolic mandrel

I epoxied a 1/2" bulkhead inside one end the long coupler tube and used a piece of 1-1/2" steel tubing that allowed me to raise the coupler tube assembly up and slam down onto the vertical steel tube.. The Body tube moved about 1/2" per slam. The coupler was not damaged and I am still able to...

Is Public Missiles Having a Problem?

I just ordered some body tubes, couplers and a nose cone on 12/15. Received them today 12/18, but it was shipped FedEx not USPS. I'd say they're not having the problem the mail service is.

    The Launch Pad Nike Hercules

Yes G 76 Green. 48" homemade Mylar chute and a 500# test Kevlar shock cord. Very fussy build, but very satisfying when its done. One bit of advice is to strengthen the central B60 body tube where the booster section meets the sustainer. Mine failed at that point tearing the sustainer...

    The Launch Pad Nike Hercules

I made a rather long narrated slide show of the construction of the Nike Hercules kit. About 23 minutes. It covers from the first step through finishing. I just uploaded it so it's still in processing as of 1300 CST 19 Nov 2020. I didn't think anyone would be interested so I didn't upload it...

    Recovery overkill and non-deploy

It's the momentum of the nose cone that pulls the recovery package out of the body tube via the shock cord or attachment to the nose cone. Take a slow motion video of a ground test and see the effect I'm talking about. Tight recovery packages can cause a failure to deploy but that doesn't seem...

    HPR Boost Wobble

You install them between the rocket and the rail button using a slightly longer machine screw to attach the rail button. This increases the distance between the rocket and the rail by 1/4" or 3/8" and provides a little more room so that the rocket never touches the rail. This also cures the...

    HPR Boost Wobble

Try putting 1/4" X 1/4" or 1/4"X 3/8" nylon spacers (standoffs) under the rail buttons. These are available at most hardware stores in the "drawers". I had a rocket doing exactly what the video shows. In my case the rocket was touching the rail as it left causing the oscillation as the fins...

    Quick Link Sizing?

As unlikely as it may seem, the FB quick link could have been screwed shut. I had a very similar incident that opened a 1/4" quick link broke a 2500# Kevlar shock cord and elongated the eyes on a 1500" swivel (second photo). My incident's root cause was simultaneous firing of both primary and...

What is the best 2 part epoxy for nosecone weight?

Any epoxy with a 30 minute + cure works. I use aluminum or brass rods instead of steel to make grinding them to the nose cone shape easier.

    Loc phoenix nose weight

I built a scratch 4" Blue Tube true to scale model of the AIM 54C with a 38mm motor mount. Motor ejection only, no dual deploy My nose cone is 706g with the additional weight in the tip. I completely filled the fin can up through the top fin set with 2lb urethane foam. This gives me 1.48...

    First post, a couple questions

It's easy to make your parachute (or streamer) out of a cut up trash bag, string and tape. A streamer is certainly an option depending on the weight of the rocket. Don't forget to get some fire proof wadding to protect the recovery system.

    First post, a couple questions

Two to four times the total length of your rocket is a good length for the shock cord. I have used elastic from the sewing notions section of Walmart, it's hard to tell the diameter of the body tube from the photos but 1/4" is probably what you want. For low power rockets the Estes trifold...

    M1350 Adapter usage

I used the M1350 in a 98 mm mount with the Aeropack retainer and the adapter for my successful L3. No issues.

Estes Saturn V #1969 Build - Let's share ideas and experiences...

I had to peel a layer of paper from the top of the body tube to allow enough room to use the static line from the service module loop. I was concerned because this didn't leave much thickness, however the rocket flew fine and showed no problems associated with the thin mouth. I did reinforce...
