    Efflofting

Go with the Courier, it's a great kit. It goes together pretty easy and is a blast to launch with the kids. Haven't had much luck on recovery, but that's half the fun. The egg that I think would have survived, my eldest snagged out of midair and in grabbing it, broke the egg. Couple of...

    Launch sites in Augusta GA

Thanks for all the good advice. Ft. Gordon is still around...that's why I'm here again. I was here in the late 90's, but that was before I had gotten back into rocketry. I'll probably give Patriot's Park a shot, I know it's pretty big. I'm not sure how far I want to travel, since I'm still...

    Launch sites in Augusta GA

Anyone know a good place to launch in Augusta, GA? I just got transferred and want to take the kids launching when our stuff gets delivered (priorities you know) Thanks! Doug

    Gemini DC Mods

I went ahead and superglued some aluminium foil to the inside of the tubes opposite the exhaust when I built it. So far this has solved the problem of burning through the tube. It's flown a couple of times and other than the parachutes semi-tangling, it's a great rocket. Doug

    To build or preserve?

If you build it he will come. Or maybe not. I'm in the build camp. It was made to be built and flown. The best analogy is that it is a toy and meant to be played with. Think of the old G.I. Joes. They were meant to be played with and not set on a shelf. That's where the fond memories...

    MercuryRedstone

A bit of advice on the capsule parachute...tie a single string to the bottom of the capsule, then run it through the top of the capsule before you glue the tower on to the capsule. Then tie the chute to the single string. It will prevent the capsule from coming down tower first and breaking on...

    Quest Falcon and a streamer

Darian, I'm stationed in San Angelo, about 80+ miles south of Abilene. I think were about 200+ miles from Fort Davis. I'm probably going to have the boys use streamers so they can get the rockets back. Thanks! Doug

    Quest Falcon and a streamer

I'm building 5 Quest Falcons with my Webelos den and living in West Texas where the wind blows constantly was wondering about the viability of using a streamer instead of the parachute. I know I don't want to use the full 'chute since that's a sure ticket that the rocket will land in New Mexico...

    Launch question

Since I'm still new and haven't found the answer, has anyone tried to do simultaneous launches? I just picked up another launcher from Micheals clearance rack and thought about launching two Alphas with my kids, see which flies higher, lands closer, etc. Can't think of any real safety problems...

    Quest Antari engine question

Just finished the Antari, not a bad kit for the price. Probably will get a bunch for the Webelos den and their scientist pin...should be able to build and paint in an hour. Here's the question: the cover sheet says A6-4 ONLY...has anyone put in a more powerful engine, say a B6-4 and if so...

    Engine Mount Repair

Ok, I built my first rocket stand; 1x4, dowel, spent engine case. came out great other than I tore the heck out of the engine mount assembly on my Quest Courier. My question for the Panel of Experts; Can I simply build a new engine mount? It flies very well and the paint job is one of my...

    Cub Scout Rockets

Awesome! We're planning on doing the same thing with my Cub Scout Den. FYI, when your boys move up, the requirements for the Space Exploration Merit Badge are the same. I finished it with my older boys troop earlier this year and am going to teach a couple more later. BTW, where did you get...

    Recovery Question

Just got done launching with my kids this evening, a windless day in West Texas, which is about a real rarity, so I told the boys to grab a rocket and we were gonna launch. We took a Quest Courier, Astrosat LSX, and Wacky Wiggler (a real waste of cardboard and plastic). Anyway...several of the...

    Weatherproofing?

Haven't tested it, but you might want to consider a coat of Future...you can brush or airbrush it on. It will give the rocket a nice shine and with the paint should provide at least limited protection from the elements, without adding much extra weight. HTH Doug

    Sanding Question

Got a newbie question on sanding fins. How many times should I seal and sand fins to get a good looking and good flying rocket. I think I remember the Stine book says three times, but want to make sure. Also, how do you know when the fins are good to go and are there any other fin tips or...

    Aerodynamics question

I'm working on a Quest Courier for my son and also have a Gemini DC for me. With a little luck, I should have them both done by Monday. I just need to decide on the colors to paint them. I figure the Courier will be white with black fins, and I think I'll paint the Gemini blue or red. And...

    Aerodynamics question

Tons of great advice...Jeff, none condescending and very informative. I'll probably keep it retired and take one of the leftover kits and rebuild it. Thanks! Doug

    Aerodynamics question

I just built an Alpha 1 w/my son's Boy Scout Troop as part of their space exploration merit badge. I tried to do something a little different from the boys by reversing the fins so they swept up. I ran a stability test on it with fishing line and it went well. Except when I went to launch it...
