    Decal Material Sites

I always get my decal paper from Micro Mark. It's really good stuff and always exactly as expected.

    Christine is my hero!

Well, after a month of waiting, I finally have a shiny new main BT and coupler for my Satrun V which was mangled in shipping due to a poor packing job by the guy who sent it. One call to her was all it took. I offered to buy them because it wasn't their fault but she wouldn't let me and...

    launch controller zapping igniters

Rocketboy, the short explanation to your question goes as follows: Comparing electrical current and voltage can most easily be done by comparing it with water. Loosely, voltage can be compared to the volume of water moving through a pipe (the wire) whereas current (measured in amps) equates...

    launch controller zapping igniters

Yes, you can indeed have too much current flowing. What will happen is that the wire bridge will pop before it's able to heat the pyrogen to flash point and ignite it. This is why I stressed that if the pyrogen was burning it should be OK. if the answer to my question was "No, the pyrogen is not...

    launch controller zapping igniters

Is the thin wire being broken before the pyrogen is ignited? Or is the pyrogen indeed burning? In the Estes igniters, the thin gauge wire ignites the pyrogen tip and it's the pyrogen that ignites the motor. Therefore, if the pyrogen is igniting, you should be fine. I'd check to make sure you...

    Nose weights

Thanks Carl! I was wondering about that. I've been looking for a postal scale that fits within my budget, but so far no luck locally. I'm going to try the archery shop where I get my arrows but if not there I'll go online for one. I appreciate you checking that out for me! Jeff

    Nose weights

Speaking of this, does anyone know the weight of the standard Estes square of clay?

    Inspiration for the ACME Spitfire?

I believe (and I'm sure Jim will correct me if I'm wrong) that that's exactly the cartoon that inspired the A.C.M.E. Spitfire. Gary Larson is a sick and twisted individual and I thoroughly love his cartoons. Especially the "Boneless Chicken Ranch"

    Roachwerks Saturn 1b

I just ordered one of the last ones Sandman had over the weekend. I'm REEEEEEEEALY looking forward to it coming in. It looks absolutely awesome! Martin, yours looks great! Paint that baby up! :)

    Estes

Quasar, I think what's being referred to here is the upcoming Estes "Outlander". It's not exactly a Mars Lander (they're not re-releasing that yet) but it's pretty close. Actually the artists' renditions I've seen look pretty cool. I found it at this link to Tower Hobbies: Outlander...

    Estes hydrogen powered rocket

Next thing you know the good 'ol BATF will require us to have a LEUP to purchase or posess more than a gallon of water. God help you if you drink too much coffee and try to drive across state lines without stopping at the border to pee :-)

    MicroMaxx heads up

Awesome! I just found a Toys R Us locally that has the MicroMaxx kits and picked up 4 of them for 5 bucks each. They have 5 left and I'm thinking of snatching those up too. Only bad part is they didn't have any of the SR-71/Tomahawk sets. I got two of the Saturn V/Shuttle sets, one...

Where should I get Micro Maxx motors?

I finally managed to pick up a Quest Micro Maxx Saturn V starter set and it should be delivered soon. I anticipate using it a bunch and would like to ask where the best (cheapest? quickest) place to get new motors is. Once upon a time, they were available at my local HobbyTown, but like a lot of...

What do you get when you cut a plastic nose cone with a carpet knife????

Man, as soon as I read the subject I could feel the pain! :) I did that once about 6 months ago. Cut through the top of my thumb from the tip, through the nail and about a half inch past the cuticle and deep enough to hit the bone. Luckily I had a new blade in the knife and it was a clean cut...

    Aerodynamics question

Yep. I was having technical difficulties with the image exports and had to retry exporting the standard Alpha 3 or 4 times. I guess I did forget the engine on the one that finally worked :) We do know that the Alpha is a stable design though, so no harm no foul I guess.

    Aerodynamics question

And here's a reverse-finned Alpha (otherwise stock, not CP-CG). As a side note, I managed to get this one to 100 feet on a C-6 and it spins like a freakin pinwheel all the way :)

    Aerodynamics question

Well, just assuming that the only change was the reversal of the fins, I simmed it out and here's what Rocksim says... Here's the normal config (note CP-CG relationship) edit (oops wrong file :) )
