Why hello there! It's been awhile TRF.

Yeah I think that was me! I met with the DARS people and got my Tripoli Mentor Cert too. I'm actually in Waco now for work, probably will try looking around for a club here to work with.

Model Rocketry on the Cheap: Favorite No-cost or Low-cost Ways to Build Model Rockets?

I used original gorilla glue at first, then moved over to using 2-part epoxy. Both work pretty good. I don't think I've ever used wood glue

Model Rocketry on the Cheap: Favorite No-cost or Low-cost Ways to Build Model Rockets?

Yes and yes! The surface prep is a bit different than cardboard but nothing hard. No harder to glue on than plywood to me.

With a little help from my friends: 2-stage 54mm min diameter

Hey Jason, this looks like an awesome build! Looking forward to watching the process! Some first thoughts I thought were worth mentioning: I wonder if you could integrate the tape wire into your composite layup? If you did that you would protect and secure the wire without having to worry...

Model Rocketry on the Cheap: Favorite No-cost or Low-cost Ways to Build Model Rockets?

In all seriousness though, one of the cheapest materials I've worked with was foamboard. It was crazy easy to use as well. Trace out your fin geometry, cut with a razor blade, cut a "v" shape out of the foamcore down the leading and trailing edges, pinch the edges together, tape, and you have...

Why hello there! It's been awhile TRF.

Hello! It's been a quick minute since I've been on here... Like a 5 year minute. haha. It's been a really long time so I just wanted to get on here, introduce myself, and see who I know is still active 5 years later. As a quick introduction, I was heavily involved with HPR and TRF in middle...

Model Rocketry on the Cheap: Favorite No-cost or Low-cost Ways to Build Model Rockets?

I got my start building model rockets out of old cardboard tubes lying around the house... I didn't know anything about rocket stability... or fin design... or anything really... But that was my start! I'm sure they would have flown a lot nicer if I knew some stuff though 😂.

    Ellis Mountain Rocket Motors - J228 & H50

Huh I also didn't know that they were decertified (although it makes sense now that I think about it... and in light of certain new info). Would it be possible to fly the motor as a research motor under Tripoli Rules? I'm just about to get my NAR Lv.2 Which will transfer to Tripoli Lv. 2 as...

    Ellis Mountain Rocket Motors - J228 & H50

Wow! I didn't know they had such a high failure rate. My MD is actually built around the 38/1200 Loki Case, but the thought of dropping $125 on a case, and then even more on the motor made my college student mind cringe for a bit.

    Ellis Mountain Rocket Motors - J228 & H50

So I'm putting together a nice Little 38MD and I saw that the J228 would be a great motor to push it past 20000 feet... Except that they're long out of business. I know once before I got my hands on an H50 thanks to this forum so I thought I would test the waters once again. Name your price...

    Co2 vs black powder

Hey sorry to jack this thread but I have a question that I've had some trouble finding info about. I read that co2 ejection systems have only been tested to pressures equal to 80000 feet, but I'm curious, has anyone flown them above that?

DARS Launches - Dallas Area Rocket Society

Sounds like the launch went well. I've kinda dropped out of the hobby for a while. I got a job, and I'm Working on my Private pilot's license, and restoring a piano. (Yeah I'm a bit of a nerd for almost everything :P ) hopefully I'll get back into it soon. I'll try to be at the launch in July. :)

    WHAT THE HECK!!! Windows 10???

I don't understand why people give windows 10 so much flack. When I heard that Microsoft is giving away new software for free I jumped on it. My computer was already on its last leg and I know windows 10 kept it going just long enough to get another computer. Now I have a surface with windows 10...

Those are very cool! So those use radio tracking, not GPS tracking?
