    Estes Shuttle Express

My Shuttle Xpress has the 'brick' glider issue as well. I've had amazingly fun results with Jim Flis' Tri-Glide. A fun build, replacement gliders are cheap, and hasn't let me down yet after tons of flights. Properly trimmed up, the gliders will make a great circle pattern as the sustainer...

    Pem-Tech LPR 3FNC Beta Build

As promised, here is some video of the first exciting flight! LRfcM_CEJMw It was a great flight, you can hear me chuckling in delight. I did lose it a bit in the sky (the sun was brighter than the camera lets on.) Sorry for the drops of water on the lens, we fought the weather all day...

Scott Dog. The powers that be, assure me that your gift is on the way. I am truly sorry for the delay. I was told that it was to ship out on friday the 24th, I received a call on thursday the 30th and was again told it was shipping out. I will call again on the 5th and try to get tracking...

    Losing rockets sucks

Wow, talk about spinning up a topic! Thank you! I usually go through a few stages of grief, and my hats off to those who have found ways to diminish their losses. I think talking through some of this will be quite theraputic. And I think experience has a lot to do with it. I've been back...

    SS Christmas in July 2011

I had a little present waiting for me today..... oh the agony!!!! Luckily my town will be doing fireworks on the 3rd, starting at 10pm. By the time I get home, should be just about time to break the seal. Thank you SS!!!! And I think I've found something nice for my recipient. The order...

    Pem-Tech LPR 3FNC Beta Build

It's tough to trump a Cthulhu facepalm :D I think the legs will be fine. They did feel very sturdy. I have no concerns about the gentle return to terra firma courtesy of a Hartle chute. If I do have issues with them, it won't be a tough thing to move them up a bit. I want to give...

    Just bought some Fliskits...

Mark, I'd love to see fit and finish around the Corona Booster and Booster / Sustainer mating. After the most tenderest of primer coats, my two pieces are practically inseperable. Great for romantic comedy, not so much for 2 stage rocketry! There's more than one reason why Sandee is the...

    Pem-Tech LPR 3FNC Beta Build

Sadly, Saturday's solstice launch was rained out - oh the irony! Will try again on the 25th.... I'll have a larger field so maybe I'll take out the D12 estes and go with a Aerotech D21...... Gives me a chance to hit it with a little more sandpaper and another shot of paint, possibly some...

    Pem-Tech LPR 3FNC Beta Build

A last little bit of sanding and I started hitting it with the chrome. There's a bit more painting I'd like to do it, but I am going to try to fly it tomorrow (Sat). It's been a fun kit, and I appreciate Layne and all the llamas at Pem-Tech for letting me take a crack at it. I should have...

    Pem-Tech LPR 3FNC Beta Build

3FNC's got legs, and she knows how to use them. I did the drill trick on the dowels and it worked great.

    Pem-Tech LPR 3FNC Beta Build

And now, leave it to something simple like chasing tail to get me in trouble! No matter how much I begged, pleaded, cajoled and drooled, I couldn't seem to get a nice balance for the tail cone. A dimple there, a ruffle here... GRRRR. Finally, I got it close enough and figured I'd fix and fill...

    Pem-Tech LPR 3FNC Beta Build

Once I had the motor mount in place, time to turn my attention to the fins. The basswood fins were great to work with, and my xacto knife is finally talking to me again! I put nice coat of filler on them and then went to work sanding... sanding..... But really these weren't too bad, and a...

    Pem-Tech LPR 3FNC Beta Build

Here's a handy motor mount verification tip. Once you cut the nose cone, insert it into the BT, then use it to draw a line on the inside of your body tube. Your forward motor mount NEEDS to land aft of this line. Allow a bit of space for the glue fillet.

    Pem-Tech LPR 3FNC Beta Build

Who likes watching glue dry? Not me, so while I've got the first bit of glue drying on the Motor Mount, I turned my attention to that massive nose cone. I'm always looking for an excuse to get the razor saw out, and while I was doing the nose job, I felt just like that dr. 90210 guy...

    Pem-Tech LPR 3FNC Beta Build

I sent the Pem-Tech llamas a little Christmas care package and what do you know...... This little gem showed up on my door :) A generous amount of basswood for the fins, fin template, fin marking guide, tail cone, centering rings, dowel, BT, kevlar shock cord, and huge nose cone! Too shy...

Need advice on how to check stabitliy on Sunward Gravity Rider

I do miss my Gravity rider - Antares Class! I built it as close to the instructions as I could fathom. It was very forgiving. My forward fins instead of being angled/aligned with the rear fins were instead level/parallel to the dual body tubes. Also, it was the model of redundancy, as it was...

    SS Christmas in July 2011

I got my email sent off to Papa Elf..... Now it's time for the tough part.... patience....:kill: Of course, right now doesn't begin to compare to the agony of having that little box come through the door.... then it's there.... mocking you for a few days! Here is my list.... Aerotech...

    Altimeter ONE

John, That eyelet looks great. Would it be possible to show the eyelet tool, or tell make/model number. All the ones I've looked at seem like they won't punch down far enough on the BT...... In some cases, I'd like to go 3 to 4 inches down the BT. Oh, and the Altimeter Two should be...
