So, this may be a bit silly...but it came up while browsing the "Biggest motor you've flown" poll/thread.

What if...you had to make a choice of one impulse level and ONE ONLY to fly for the rest of your life? Assume that you DO have your L3, but NOT infinite funds...just whatever you make now and expect to be making after retirement.

Selecting the impulse on the poll is cool, but if you'd elaborate a bit further that'd be interesting to reflect on as well...

Myself...I tend to fly 29mm's far more than anything else! If restricted to ONE RELOAD, I'd probably have to say it'd be a CTI H163 White Thunder. Mid range "H", love the WT propellant, great for min diameter altitude launches, yet still as plenty of oomph for larger projects...low cost enough to fly lots of 'em.

Were I limited to just the occasional launch...probably be a "K"...most likely the CTI K740 C*.

I picked G but only since my closest field is G limited (25 minutes). This maximizes my flight day opportunities, and this site is very child friendly. My "local" HPR site is 100 miles door to pad...
 
Thanks Q! These are the types of considerations I was hoping everyone would make. If you don't have Black Rock in your back yard, then local launch area definitely becomes a consideration. Of course, I totally expect a few "O" responses because the thrill of burning one once a year is justifiable to the individual over burning many "G"'s thru out the year.

G motors. No FAA waiver needed so I could fly them whenever. Plus, at $10-20 a flight, they wont be too expensive. .

I said "I" ,can fly a lot of my stuff on this one .Our HP field is only about 45 mins from my home ,but I also wanted to say "G" ,as our smaller field takes Gs very well and is only 20 minutes from my door.

But I`m no snob ,Cs & Ds & Es are great fun and cheap for a full day of running around.

TOTALLY agree about the smaller motors, Paul. I can have hours of fun with a box 'o "D"'s...and I really think the Aerotech "E"'s are the most underrated motors out there.
 
I'd have to say D. I've got a lot of D friendly rockets and the soccer field at the edge of town is not too far away.

I agree ,I have a bunch of AT Es from 12 years ago (I bought dozens of them from a local HS) and still have a bunch ,they still work without a flaw, and i even use those beloved copperheads LOL...of course I use the two tape method ;=)

Soetimes a guy wants to have a little more power than a D12 ,so an AT E15 / 30 fits the bill !

I chose E, mostly because they're cheap and reasonably powerful in BT-60-ish rockets, and I just love the E18. :)
This kinda reminds me of the poll I did a while back about which you would choose if you could only build or only fly-- that one got... interesting. ;)
 
Mine would probably be a K motor -- I can whack something up pretty high, if I want, but I can also build stuff that will stay nice and low, with the same motor.

1,000 feet? Easy. Build a stack of 5 gallon buckets. K800 - 1100 feet. Stable as heck, inexpensive to build.

10,000 feet? A bit tougher -- starting to get into small stuff. But still doable.

This is a tough poll to answer. I choose C because it is a versatile motor that is easy to build for - like any other power range you can adjust height based on design. Price is also a factor - you can fly a LOT of C motors in a given day. The one downside is that there are only two "manufacturers" of C motors importing and selling these in the US.
 
F for me since the field around 10 minutes from my house can handle it. Also they aren't that expensive, and there is a big range of stuff you can do with them.
 
Something in the 54mm range. Wouldn't want to give up the long burn option.
 
Went with I motor myself, I can fly all sorts of airframes in all the fields I can easily get to. Plus I can see the whole flight. Of course it kinda cuts out my 5.5" and 6" airframes...

If it has to be one impulse class it would probably be the I motor. You can get an I in three different motor diameters, and it can send anything from a few ounces of rocket screaming, to over 15 lbs of rocket lumbering. If I'm stuck to one piece of hardware, it would be the CTI 3 grain case.
 
I replied G... if I could only fly one single motor, it would be the G138 over and over and over again. The CTI G54 is also awesome, as is the G106 skidmark (which I have yet to fly).
 
C -- Assuming this is what I would be limited to "for the rest of my life", I can anticipate with great delight my (currently non-existing) grandchildren's awe and excitement when they press a little virtual button on their cell band's display and a flight of transluscent little missiles erupt out of the back of grampa's hover chair and go sailing off into the blue. "Abram, Abram, that's so coyoolia; it's just like when the Patriot XII batteries engaged the first wave of Torion battlecraft!"
 
An easy choice for me, G is the sweet spot. With average thrust options from 30 to 138, you can power a huge range of things. Fly them anywhere, keep it low if you need to, fly it high if you want to, no waivers, easy on the wallet, the advantages to the G range are so great, I couldn't see choosing anything else.
 
Either F or G, because I can actually find places to fly them. I can't afford Level 3 now and I'm not so sure that I will ever be able to do so.
 
ten years ago I would have had a much higher impulse listed...now not so much....An "E" is now about the highest impulse I can afford these days

Have to go with G.

From the old days, the AT G125 and Vulcan G200.

Now we have stuff like the AT G138 along with all the Pro24 and Pro29 loads. Fantastic variety and some very strong motors in that mix.

Flew a Pro29 G126WT over the weekend, wicked awesome motor. Absolutely love the G250V and the G106SK too!!
 
I chose "C". I don't have a large range but I do have a dedicated recovery team between 6 and 10 years old. The local park is not large and there are rocket eating trees around. The kids love a Star Trooper on 1/2A3-4T as much as a Bertha on a C6-5. I only had to retrieve 2 birds myself last year.
