Yesterday, while in Hobbytown picking up some square balsa stock I took a stroll down the model section. To my glad surprise they had a numer of old Horror kits like the Mummy, Wolfman and Guillotine. To my gladder surprise they had some modern versions of older plastic space and rocket models by Glenco, Moebius and Polarlights. So, when I found myself with a Von Braun ferry rocket, a satellite launcher, a Mercury & Gemini capsule combo and a Man in Space multi-pack stuffed in my shorts I realized I had a problem.

I am a kit junky.....

I have boxes of unbuilt plastic models and hundreds of unbuilt rocket kits, not to mention a literal warehouse full of components. Why the heck would I buy more kits if I haven't even built any of the ones I have now???

This problem is bigger than me, I need help.

How many others are suffering this malady?

Nope, but I would be more than happy to help you build some of those kits!

Layne,
This is NORMAL for those such as ourselves. Lesser beings see this as a problem, but they are simply envious. Please do not fall for their attempts at faux logic when they offer to help. They just want to own our stashes. If y'all REALLY want to play it SAFE, send your collection to me. I will store it with mine for safe keeping.

After all, what are fiends for?

Evil Ed:dark:

You are preaching to the choir on this one.....I have to order "parts" to build a rocket...I get a whole "Kit" ....it gets Squirreled away...even something as common a Goliath from a starter set.....(Flawed Logic) "well it's in a bag...and all of it's there....it's a kit! collect it!"

...stuffed in my shorts...

Is that a rocket you have in your pocket or are you just happy to see old kits?

I only have 4 un-assembled kits right now (I finished the Stingray yesterday). However, I do have stacks and stacks of Starbucks lids and cups and other scrap materials sitting all over my workbench waiting for the next inspiration to hit. Well, actually, I did have an idea, I just need to find about a 1" long ring of some lightweight material about 4-6" in diameter.

Ya know, if you've got tons of spare kits you'll never have time to build, there is a "FREE" prefix in the yard sale forum. :dark:  That's much more fair then sending them all to MasonH.
The warehouse is excusable, but all those unbuilt kits laying around... Those have to go. (See, I'm helping!)

Send me your address and I'll send a 53' truck to collect it all!!!

There is only one cure for this compulsion, and that is to share with others.

Me first! :wink::lol:

Wish I had this problem! Better yet..I wish I had you'r finances to be able to have this problem.

The crazy thing is, in a way I do have this problem but my warehouse is in my computer. I have hundreds of unbuilt kits in pdf files not to mention all the design ideas I have stored in my cerabellum for scratch builds.

You know Lane, it's kinda funny you bring this up. I just unpacked the last of three "wardrobe" boxes full of models from my last move. Yes...only three. I've begrudingly skinnyed the stock down to about 50 plastic and 50 or so rockets. Yes, it hurt but I had to do it. Not much room in the new house. Oh, and before anyone ask, no, I didn't let the movers take the good stuff! I'm not that crazy. That all came in the Yukon with me! Lots of resin F1 and a collection of N scale Union Pacific Locos.....and a Sirius Sat V

Layne I kind of feel your pain but not really.I finish one and normally have to wait 3/4 weeks to start another but thats ok thats me.I'm happy just to get to the LHS to buy a sheet of 1/8" balsa and P.O. for a mailer tube for my next great design.Did just finish my vagabond now waiting on paint....Oh and yes you need a 12 step program

THANK GOD I'M NOT ALONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The biggest advantage to these threads is I get to show my wife that I am not alone..

There are others just as bad, and some worse than I am ;)

My inventory is slightly over 350 kits. I'll be set into retirement!

But that still doesn't stop me from following the Tom Lehrer lyrics "more, more, I'm still not satisfied"
(and for those of you who catch the reference without using the internet, can join me on the "old farts" thread)

Yikes.....
Didn't think the thread would go this direction....
I wasn't trying to brag about all the kits and parts that are stashed away in the Rocket Room, just confessing my absurd desire for more kits.
:(

Now I feel really bad because I bought a new kit yesterday.
BUT, it was such a good deal I couldn't pass it up.

Absurd? Hi. Have we met? I'm on my sixth cup of coffee and like a Giant Colossal Space Bear, I'm ready to do laundry, fiddle with this body tube that didn't do anything wrong, or catch an electric eel and spin it so fast it rips space-time continuum and takes me to the future.

Kit away, man!

Later!

Nice find. I built that kit in the 60's when my brother and I had our own version of the cold war going on. We built everything from boats, planes, army tanks and what not. I still have the Snark and 100 or so of other plastic models. I do get the urge to build the plastic models from time to time...it is a strange feeling that one gets.. it never goes away. Buy, build, buy build, buy...
Yikes.....

Suffering?

Malady?

Boy I didn't understand a word you just said right now.

One of the things I had to leave behind when sorting stuff after my dad passed away was a huge box full of model kits that I had left when I moved out. Dozens of 1/35 and 1/48 scale kits that I would dearly love to have today. Right now I have two in progress (1/35 Tamiya Steyr 1500 and 1/24 Monogram 1926 Mack Tank Truck) with two 1/48 aircraft kits in reserve. Every time I go to the hobby shop I'm tempted to get another one or two to add to he "to build" pile. I have to resist because I really don't have anywhere to display them once built.

^ I know there's a "spit or..." punchline there, but I'm not going there... Oh, look! A kitten!

Described my problem perfectly.
Wife is sure I'm a hoarder.

Of course, you really haven't a got a problem, until you discover that you just bought a kit that somehow you've forgotten that you already have.

That's a problem??? Oh well - nice score on that Snark - it's a neat kit. I'll have to get back to you after I finish my inventory of unbuilt kits still sitting on the shelf :)
