I recently had to reinstall Adobe Flash Player to my 'puter. Now every time I click my mouse the little box pops up up and ask if I want my 'puter to open this program 'Adobe Flash Player' It' s PITA and I end up unstalling it so I can use my 'puter without interuption.

Is it me or the 'puter or Adobe?

First off, I dunno what a "puter" is....

As for the Flash player, where did you download it from? Straight from Adobe, or from somewhere else?

If it wasn't directly from the Adobe website, uninstall what you have, and install the latest from Adobe.

It shouldn't be behaving like that.

A computer, 'puter is the term used in the Star Wars movies when someone talks about a computer.

I feel the same way about Adobe as qquake2k feels about paint.

And yes, there is a Fake Flash malware out there that preys on Apple computers. Because the PC has been successfully exploited for so long, most PC users have hardened their systems to the point that they are no longer the low hanging fruit. More importantly, most PC users are a lot more skeptical about the "basic goodness" of the internet.

Apple users on the other hand are now the low hanging fruit. Too innocent and wide eyed at this point. Armed only with the mistaken belief their computers are unhackable. Even worse, Apple as a company doesn't have the battle experience the PC companies have developed over the years. Apple issues a security patch and hours later, the malware has been altered and the bad guys are merrily exploiting the same security problem.

BTW, M$ has moved "System Sweeper" from beta to production and it's now called "Windows Defender Offline". It can be downloaded directly from Microsoft at this link: Windows Defender Offline. This is the real deal for eliminating rootkits and other malware from Windows based PCs. The program boots from a CD or USB device and bypasses the hard disk which prevents malware from getting its hooks into Windows and hiding itself. I have an idea that this project involved Mark Russinovich of System Internals fame (purchased by Microsoft a few years ago.)

Updated very frequently (daily?), this is serious medicine for serious infections.

Yeah it's an arms race. I am an exploit developer/reverse engineer for an attack-centric infosec company. Often people ask, if I had my choice for attacking a Mac or Windows 7, I'd pick Mac any day.

I wasn't aware that Mark was involved in the new Windows Defender project, but I wouldn't be surprised. The fact that he (literally) wrote the book on Windows internals before he even worked at MS says a lot about the genius and sheer breadth of knowledge that guy has.

Anyways, on a side note, remove the Flash player, and download the fresh 11.1 player from Adobe. That should fix it (assuming you haven't been compromised and the good folks overseas aren't merrily stealing your Rocksim designs :) )

I don't know that to be a fact. Just a hypothesis on my part.

Interesting job you have.

Been listening to Steve Gibson and Leo Laporte's "Security Now" podcast since Day One and have been greatly entertained by the "Arms Race".

Yeah I actually was a big fan of the GRC stuff, and I loved Leo Laporte in his early TechTV days.

Another great security podcast is PaulDotCom.com check them out, quite funny, and they're smart dudes.
