Hey I was curious if anybody had it? And do you like? Also what motors and altitudes have you gotten?

thanks

I love mine. Definitely the sexiest rocket I have. Technically mine is a Talon as I bought it before the whole "issue" with the name thing, which I guess I understand. Anywoo I haven't flown mine yet but the L730 will be my motor of choice when I do.

I have one, and flown a bunch of times, its a great flyer, one of my favorites. The only commercial motor I've flown it on is the CTI L1276RR (for AMW 2550 case) - was my first flight, alt was 7031' (photo attached). Really screamed nice. I fly mine mostly on 54/2000 and 54/2550 EX loads (3500-7000'). The biggest problem with the rocket are the gi-normous fins; on the way down the booster spins like crazy. My 25' shock cord needs serious detwisting therapy after a flight. You might do better with a drogue, though it will have to be quite large to avoid the spin-o-rama. I have not found beefy enough swivels that I would trust; others might suggest something?

Its about 16 lbs without a motor, and 22.4 lbs on the pad with a 2550 motor.

I thought I built too beefy.... I did chopped CF reinforced internal injecto-fillets for the big fins, and foamed in the aft fins after dribbling in fillets on all the internal joints. My NC has a 54mm tube sunk in for a tracker, and is also foamed. My ebay is probably a bit heavy, since I put in a 54mm tube to accept a 54mm coupler based ebay. The only place I might be a tad light is I epoxied in kevlar bridle straps in the fin can and NC, rather than hardware. Of course these connect to tubular nylon with hardware. Not that it matters, but I cut a tad off (1/2"?) the tailcone so the aeropack retainer did not stick into the airstream too much.

I use a couple of different chutes (depending on what is not in a different rocket): either a SkyAngle 60" Classic II, or a Spherachutes 84" (most often). We fly on a sod farm, and the rocket is very tough, so these are plenty big. The spherachutes packs a bit easier into the 4" tube, but both are fine.

Kewl I've got a 72" in mine. My drouge is an 18". I built my fincan the exact same way...lol I actually switched my NC to a 6:1 looks kewl. Although I have the original come as well. The 6:1 is built stock, the 5:1 is foamed with 2.5lbs nose weight in there. I used tubular Kevlar all around. 30ft on the nose and 25ft in the booster. I like the aeropack idea! Mine has one as well but I didn't "flush" it up the BT as you did, great idea! I'd love to see a pic of your NC bay I didn't have a tracker at the time but I'm testing for my ham next week so it's coming....

Here's a photo of the back. Looks like I lied before - I used a ubolt in this NC, and 38mm tube to the top. Ah well, too many rockets. There is a piece of coupler inside, the top of which has a bulkplate with 1/4-20 screw in it for adjustable nose weight (I use slugs of metal with a 1/4" hole down the middle for weights). Turns out, with the tubes and foam, I don't need any nose weight. Go figure. The cover(top) holds it all in with thumbscrews.

By the way - did you have any trouble with the NC tip? I had barely started building my rocket when I bumped it and snapped it off - turns out it wasn't held on with much more than gel-coat. Fixed it with a 4-40 threaded rod and some chopped CF filled epoxy - much pointier than the original - looks cool!

You added 2.5# of nose weight? Sounds like a lot. This rocket has monster fins to really pull Cp back.

That looks really good. Yeah when I did my cp calcs I forgot to factor the fin surface...the main reason I went with the other NC. And yes mine broke off too! All gelcoat. I used epoxy clay to remold it. Some spot putty and a good sand and spray and you can't tell.

Awesome rocket, although I've only flown mine twice. On a Gorilla K555GT, I got 3700 ft. Mine comes in at 13lbs sans motor. I use a 60" Skyangle main with a 24" Skyangle Cert-3 drogue for recovery. My other flight was on an experimental K on windy day. Plan to fly it soon on a calmer day wtih a bigger load.

84"? We fly Bald Moms Rock (extreme darkstar, 25 lbs loaded with an L) and recover it under a 70" chute

I'd say you could probably get away with that too. But those fins are kind of large...

Nice paint scheme....man that's a light bird!!

Thanks. Painted with catalyzed automotive paints. I like my selections far more. Takes some work and decent equipment, but it's worth it.

I thought it was rather heavy until seeing others final weights on this bird.

Yeah I'm kinda picky with paint jobs too. I know the argument, I have it with myself every build. Lol Alsa paint and HVLP and a little flake!

Wow. 13 lbs? I'm impressed. The parts alone that came with my kit (no recovery, no hardware, no ebay internals,...) was 10.4 lbs. Laundry & cords alone takes mine over 13 lbs. Of course the rest is due to my building too heavy (foam, extra bits in the ebay and NC, etc).

Goes real nice with a 2550 motor ......

I am building one now and it is 15 pounds without the parachutes, electronics, or paint...I used chopped CF internal fillets and foamed a 54mm tube in the nose for tracking electronics. I'm hoping to keep it under 18 pounds total! We'll see!
