Utterly crazy notion: moar motors!

You could avoid the issues of motor flames hitting the wheels by having them out the top and bottom. Doesn't solve the "not enough thrust" problem? Add another motor top and bottom so you have two double-barrel pairs of matched motors. Lighting 4 motors will be a trick, but probably not that much worse than three.


I think one at the top, then one at 120 degrees and another at 240 degrees should help get the exhaust in a better orientation to clear the tires. But Oliver Wendell Douglas that's driving the tractor may need a firesuit though. :haironfire:
 
Hiding the canted motors is one of the fun challenges of silly oddrocs. More motors- more building and flying complexity, but more power and fun!. Keep the top two in the engine bay and put two more on the back end - one hidden by a driver like on an old Arcade Toy. Stack them tractor motors! Worked fine on my Avro Lancaster.
 
The 3 canted motor layout worked out quite well... here's some screen shots.

They are equally spaced 120 degrees so it should provide good uniform thrust.

Launching at Hartsel you have to impress the grazing Buffalo and they are a tough crowd. Some nice groves in the tractor tires and get them spinning in the motor exhaust! Paint the wheels half black half white for a cool effect off the pad. Yeppers, the good ole boys head straight to Texas barbecue after a hard days launching! Space Cowboys rule!
 
Would you get better clearance of tires from jet blast if you invert the motor triad? Side motors up, floor motor down?

As currently built, if you put a test dummy in the seat he or she is gonna get a bad facial burn.

Wheels are glued to the frame... they add rigidity and are also use to anchor the rear hitch.

I looked at that... it messes up the 'chute popping out the bottom. And as for the driver....

Crazy thought, put one down the underside between the tires, and the other 2 sticking angled "upwards" like exhaust pipes from the engine

And as for limits,
Combined propellant mass cant be more than 125 grams (requires faa waiver)
Combined total impulse cant be more than 320 N-s on clustered flights (requires certification)

I'm trying to avoid any rear discharge engines near the hitch. That's so I can add some implements for the tractor to pull skyward.. like a disc.. or a plow... or a manure spreader, or a wagon.

1st few flights will probably just have some big long streamers... something draggy to keep the tractor nose pointing in the right direction..... that's the plan anyway.
 
Brings a whole new meaning to “burning rubber.” Usually that’s reserved for the Sports Coupe Turbo tractor models

In high school the kid that lived down the road from us didn't have a car so he drove his Dad's Ford 8N tractor 4 miles to school. He'd do burnouts. They were kind of slow and sad... but they were burnouts.. :confused:
