Id like to fly my rocket at home too and I don't own a rail. The rocket comes with the lugs. Does it put me at a serious disadvantage to use lugs and a launch rod if i have lugs when my level 1 certification comes up? Has anyone flown the LOC IV on lugs and rod? What is your experience?

+1 to the other replies. Many clubs do not allow flying high power rockets off of rods any more. So it is wise to have rail buttons for that reason as well as the better performance.

Variations in motors will make a bigger difference than having both. Both won't hurt a thing. Do not leave off the rail buttons. At NSL Geneseo NY anything over a F had to fly on rails.

That's because the rods aren't big enough. I have a 11.5" rocket that uses a 1" rod. My 54mm Deuce uses a 3/4" rod. I also have many rockets, built before rails became common, that use 1/2" rods. Rails also need a backing structure. A short piece of rod to hold to the pad is no better than a rod of the same size.

Think I'd rather have little buttons sticking to the side of my rocket than 1/2" tubes
