Which rule?

Regardless, this was carried out by a pyrotechnics guy (the same that does the USSRC's fireworks). Call it a pyro event?

Do you know how they lit off that many flights at once? The misfire picture on the other thread looked a bit like they had a spider type system, but 5000 rockets would be an awfully big spider. Way past Tolkien, even. :)

Indeed! Professional firing system , 5 banks (in the blue center hubs), each bank had 10 racks, each rack had 100 rockets (arranged in 5 circles like the Sat5 engines)

Each rack was 100 e-matches in series. The nozzle was sat directly over the e-match (or just misaligned in the case of my souvenir). They did a 300 shot test launch for proof of concept. As a result, they taped coffee stirs to the fin unit that stuck in a hole opposite the launch rod, so the nozzle was less likely to be disturbed.

As a voluntary spectator, I felt quite safe during the event. The stands were farther away than was the case at the Rocketes4theCure event which had them raining down amongst folks.

I am thinking this might be a NAR violation.
Why? Read the safety code: "When conducting a simultaneous launch of more than ten rockets I will observe a safe distance of 1.5 times the maximum expected altitude of any launched rocket." As long as you do this and all the rockets are low-power, this seems perfectly legal.

I'd say "special dispensation for an event conducted under the supervision of pyrotechnics professionals."

That is, don't try this at home yourself. But it's fun to watch the video.
