I looked it over and realized the fortunate timing of the damage occuring on April Fool's Day. Had it happened on another day, it would have been real.
So, on with the build. Paint and decals are on!
After adding 3.5 ounces of nose weight, the rocket weighs in at 20.4 ounces. This includes everything except the motor, chute release, and chute protector. Is this getting a little too hefty for the supplied 24" chute?

Beautiful work!!!
Make sure you get the paint off the threads on the retainer before you fly it so the paint does not lock the cap on.
Retainer on is no problem. Estes threads aren't exactly close tolerance. This was a case of too much build momentum and not taking a long enough masking break.
Maiden video is up. Good flight on the F40-7W, but I'm trying to figure out exactly how good. It looks like the rocket flopped near the top instead of doing a graceful arc over. It also appears the nose came off before the 7 second delay. I know the ejection charge fired, but am not sure exactly what to make of what happened at the apogee of this flight. Perhaps the fins are too small to dampen the oscillations when the rocket starts slowing down? There is 3 ounces of weight at the tip of the nose, and the fin can isn't light either. Could make for some pretty good inertia if the rocket starts oscillating. I could also just be overanalyzing. Anyway, I'll chalk it up as a win and am looking forward to going for my L1 on an H128W next month.

I can only make a guess about what happened but, a heavy nose cone if it was loosely fitted would allow the main body to drag seperate from the heavier NC which will want to retain its velocity for longer.
Thanks for the input guys; I'm inclined to agree. I don't think the nose was on tight enough. A bit more tape for the next flight, then.
