building the LOC IV. Rocket is right at 4' tall. Standard rule is 3X to 4X the length of the rocket for shock cord. Is 1/4 in Kevlar with length at 16' weighing in at 8oz too much? Or should I drop to 7/16 Kevlar?

Either one would be fine in my opinion. I'd probably put the shock cord to 20 ft but that's just my paranoia.

8oz for 16' of 1/4" Kevlar?? Or DROP to 7/16"????? Have another drink.

My 25' 1/4" tubular Kevlar harnesses I made from Wildmans 1/4" kevlar weigh about 34 grams or so each (minus quik links and swivels of course), the rocket I fly them in weighs 6.5 lbs fully loaded. The 1/4" Kevlar in the Loc IV whether 16' or 50' will work just fine.

My 9lb fiberglass rocket flies with 1/8th inch Kevlar no problems.

I fly my LOC IV with 1/8 braided kevlar at about 15ft. I've never zippered it.

you're off a decimal on the mass of 1/4" kevlar. it's about 0.8 oz for 16 ft. the stuff I have been getting from rocketry warehouse is actually 0.86 oz for 16ft. 7/16" is larger than 1/4" so it will weigh more unless it is really really thin.
