From personal experience, before it completely destroys a mind, part of dementia is wild conspriacy theories.

This also isn't the first time he's talked about aliens. He's also interested in the "paranormal" and remote healing.

Chillingly, he claimed our technology is "not nearly as sophisticated" as theirs and "had they been hostile", he warned "we would be been gone by now".

I love the above quote from his radio interview.

Well, if aliens traveled across the galaxy to visit us, then yes, DUH, obviously their technology would be more sophisticated than ours. :p

Dr. Mitchell has had a remarkable career and deserves to be respected for his contributions to the space program. I had the privilege of meeting him and being able to talk with him for just a few minutes. He was very cordial.

But, unfortunately, he has been open to pseudoscience for a very long time. During the Apollo 14 missions, he experimented with "ESP" and he later founded the "Institute of Noetic Sciences" which sponsors parapsychology "research."

Yes, Mitchell has always been an advocate for unconventional scientific views. On Apollo 14 he performed esp experiments with parapsychologists on earth without permission of NASA and unbeknownst to his crewmates. He also believes in remote healing:

Mitchell's interests include consciousness and paranormal phenomena. During the Apollo 14 flight he conducted private ESP experiments with his friends on Earth.[3] In early 1973, he founded the nonprofit Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) to conduct and sponsor research into areas that mainstream science has found unproductive, including consciousness research and psychic events.

Mitchell says that a teenage remote healer who lives in Vancouver and uses the pseudonym Adam Dreamhealer, helped heal him of kidney cancer at a distance. Mitchell said that while he never had a biopsy (the definitive test for cancer), "I had a sonogram and MRI that was consistent with renal carcinoma." Adam worked (distantly) on Mitchell from December of 2003 until June of 2004, when the "irregularity was gone and we haven't seen it since."

Did he wear a diaper and drive to Florida to meet the aliens?

Telepathy just can't work. We have a great receiving antenna in our nervous system, but we have no transmitter.

From what I've read he kinda infuriated Al Shepard with his "ESP" experiments on the way to and on the moon. He was concentrating on colors and shapes to see if 'gurus' concentrating at the same time on Earth could 'read his mind'. Shepard thought it was a waste of time not worthy of the mission and would be bad press looking like quackery if it got out.

Ed Mitchell has been the most "open minded" shall we say of all the astronauts. The man certainly has some impressive credentials so being open minded isn't a bad thing, I just hope he has some type of evidence to prove the point...

JMHO! OL JR :)
