went down to my local HL bought one from their clearence table(last one :)), anyway, on to the current crop of questions. anyone have problems with nose separation when using the stock chute attachment? I gather from my reading that the estes E9 motor may not be the best choice...if you had your druthers which SU motor would you suggest? thanks

Any time I question stable flight with the E9, I usually substitute the D12 without a hitch.

The E9 works fine, so long as it's calm. You could also use an AT E15 or similar if there is a concern about safe liftoff weight.

I was considering the E15, E20 motors...nice to see that I'm starting to get the knack for picking motors. thanks for the info.

Like the others have said, the E15W, E20W should be fine.

If built strong enough, you could also use the E30T and F32T motors.

I prefer the 24/40 and 24/60 RMS myself for this kit. I have flown mine on the following reloads:

E18-4W
E28-4T
F24-4W - twice
F39-6T - really rips off the pad on this motor
F35-5W - twice - 24/60 motor reload - rips on this motor too

What they said re: motors.

FWIW, I recover the nose separately on a little tiny chute, just to keep it out of the way of the wing pods.

I also friction fit the wing pods, so that if the rocket lands on one of them it doesn't break the wing off.

I really like the E11 in the Interceptor-E!:) The black smoke just adds that 'something special' to the launch!

That looks nice.:)

I haven't tried the E11J or F12J in my IE, maybe someday I will.

However, I'm really waiting for the new 24/60 F33FJ and F34R reloads to come out and try them in this rocket.:D

I think I also saw something about a 24/60 Blue Thunder reload but that might be a bit much for the big fins on this kit.

Rex, How good a deal did you get on the Interceptor?

I paid $30(roughly), so about 60% msr. deffinately a bit 'shopworn', the coupler was kind of oval(easy enough to fix) and the mmt spacer/marking guide was flattened(had one from a big daddy so that wasn't a problem either) but, all the parts were there :).

edit
