It appears that they have started embedding lots of Vibrant Media advertising on TRF. Like turning your text into hyperlinks for advertisements and overlaying images with their ads. Like for example the pics that I just posted on the MPR forum yesterday now have toilet paper ads on them.

From what I understand TRF is now run by a for-profit venture rather than as a labor of Love (or at least masochism). I expect we will see substantially more advertising as time goes on. I went to a few of the other sites these people run and some were so cluttered with advertising that you could barely distinguish the content.

Wow, that is bad. It will kill this forum. Oh well. I knew the new TOS would be death of it.

Funny, I see no ads. I even turned off addblocker...
:confused2:

I noticed one the other day. I don't remember on which thread. I thought it was really annoying.

Ads or no ads, I think the forum will be just fine. But honestly I have seen no ads other than the rocketry banners at the top.

If you're seeing other ads...what browser are you using? I wonder if you have an add-in and/or adware in the browser feeding you the ads.

hopefully. I only saw it that one time. I use chrome with no extensions/plugins.

I haven't noticed any ads besides the rocketry themed ones at the top of the page...

Personally a few ads here and there is ok, I could deal with it. BUT... if TRF becomes over cluttered with ads like some of the other forums I've seen I'll be extremely annoyed and disappointed.

I see the ads on my desktop PC using either Firefox or Chrome and also when I view TRF on my Android phone. I suspect that they are initially testing this on a limited number of users. The ads that I am seeing are embedded advertising using Vibrant Media which is used on some other forums.

Hmm... I saw Shrox's post too. I don't see this. Must be a Windows/Browser thing. I use a Mac and Safari...

Probably a spam plug-in?

I will not be assimilated. Resist.

I have seen only the image that Nathan posted. One cockroach ad means there are many more coming.

Funny, I am running Google Chrome with adblock and I see absolutely no ads (even the banner).

Try that and see what happens.

I used to get all mad at the prospect of being served with ads all the time...on the other hand, there are posters over the urinals in a lot of public restrooms, and that's never stopped me from peeing, so...;)

Hmmm...

Funny, even when I stop adblocker, and go to that page, I still see no ads. Not on the picture, not on the blown up picture...
 :confused2:

The embedded ads that I was seeing yesterday and this morning have disappeared within the past few minutes. If anyone sees any more of these ads, please post.

This was definitely not caused by malware on my PC because the sames ads were displayed when I logged on to the forum using my Android phone.

Let's be honest here guys. We don't pay anything for this site. Previously we had the benefit of a few devoted individuals that ran the show, paid the bills, and didn't ask for anything in the process. That has now changed, and we're at the mercy of those that run the show now.

So, someone can either pony up and pay for this site and run it, or else you're along for the ride.

The Rocket related manufacturers pay for ads on top of the page

Honesty, placing ads over relevant info such as is on plans, blueprints and artwork is a problem.

And Charmin pays for the embedded ads shown above. You've identified half of the equation I mentioned, not the entire argument.

Before: Rocket Ads + Rocket Flying Admins = Rocket Ads in banner only

Now: Rocket Ads + Other Ads + Non-Rocket Flying Management = All the ads they want

The ads at the top are paid for. I will be paying for one of those ads, which are expected and unobtrusive. Unobtrusive being the key word here.
