Your wire tunnel covers are way too thick.

Keep in mind that these are designed to cover flex print cables (thin flexible printed circuits) so do not need to be thick. At this scale (about 1/4) the cable isn't much thicker than a sheet of paper.

Then there is the layer of ablative coating that goes over everything and tends to wash out any detail. (about 0.75mm thick at this scale)

I posted an image around here somewhere that gives an idea of how thick the covers are.

Ok, I put some watered down FNF on the fins. It came out a little rougher than I would like. Might be that I'm out of practice.

I'll wait for this to dry, then hit the wiring tunnels.

I mixed up some expanding foam and poured it in through the hole I made in the rear centering ring. Not sure you can see too much in this picture:

I see what you mean. I guess that I'll just live with the wiring tunnels that came with the kit.

BTW, do you have any documentation that would show the placement of the "US ARMY" stencil? A Google search has turned up nothing for me.

So far as I can tell, there has never been a marking like that. There are probably some identification markings: assembly number, serial number, lift points etc. I suspect that it was the result of the kit designer wanting to include a decal. Any decal.

Yeah there is no point of any Army lettering. It's stored in a launcher. You don't see it until it decides to come out or be removed.

TopRamen is "Subscribed" to Thread, taking Notes, and eagerly following your Progress. She's looking great so far, keep up the good Work.
I just ordered a TLP ALARM Kit.

I finally got back to this after a few days off to prep for flying.

I finally figured out from the photos I found where the US ARMY stencil needs to go, so now I know where to place the forward launch lug. It is about 5.25" forward of the position shown on the .ork file upstream. I also still need to work on sanding the FnF smooth on the fins and wiring tunnels.

I epoxyed some plywood to the back of a fiber centering ring. To this, I drove an eyebolt through for my shock cord attachment.

Here it is drying: 2013-09-14 12.41.12.jpg

Bob ,those pictures are great ,very useful.I sometimes find it quite difficult to find good reference material and photos od military ordnance ,of course there`s a reason for that I understand.

I`d love to go to one of those military "trade" shows, like the one in France and take along the old camera...but not bloody likely :(

Looking at the tunnel covers on the real round ,they really are not that thin in profile ,so wood stock in the 1/16" thickness would be just fine ,and what you used looks close enough ,afterall it`s called "scale effect", so to boost the size up a bit is quite passable.

People have to understand ,that at this scale, sport or otherwise,it is afterall not a real missile, but a close representation of the actual thing.

I use a bit of artistic license in all my builds ,and am very comfortable doing so ,as long as it looks cool and looks cool taking off the pad ,that`s the important thing...to me anyhow. How a person decides to build their kit and how they interpret the way it should look is fine too ,as long as folks are building these fine kits.

Keep up the good work ,she`s gonna be a fine looking missile :handshake:

Take care

It looks like they're two different versions of the PAC-3. The second is the "MSE" version, and it looks like it is this one that has the thinner raceway/Tunnel. It also has a boat-tail at the aft end.

Note also that the forward fins are further forward and seem to be shaped differently from the 'regular' PAC-3. The aft fins also have a different shape.

The lower of the 2 PAC-3 missiles is the MSE version.

Again ,more great pics ,and they pretty much say it all. That version with the tail cone looks pretty cool.
