I have a 1965 AC Shelby Cobra from Factory Five Racing (see avitar) and a 1986 Mustang GT, my first new car that I still drive. Sorry, can't post pics right now.

tough call.
1970 Old Cutlas 442 W 30 455 rebuilt from the frame up,
Later wrapped around a tree.
1970 Firebird with the motor from above looked like crap (3 different colors),but a real blast to drive
The new one is real fun also.
2013 ZL1 580HP bone stock and have already run 11.98 1/4 mile<img src="https://www.rocketryforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=128631"/>

I've never known anyone who built a kit car. It it a reasonable general hobbyist thing to attempt or only for people with an auto mechanic background?

1972 Chevelle Malibu with V8 and fake rag top - first car at 17 years old. Ate the tires in first six weeks.
1982 Toyota Tercel with a 3A engine - 4 people in the car meant having to plan for hills. Mechanically Ok, but rusted away quickly
1990 - Ford Ranger - great little pickup
2004 Ford Escape - nice mid size SUV but hard on gas - my lead foot does not help
2011 Toyota RAV 4 - way over powered SUV with the big 279 hp V6 - massive torque steer when you step into it

Gas mileage was terrible but a great car.
Just be ready for it. I spent 6K on the motor alone and that was 20 years ago and did most of the work myself,Its not a small block Chevy.

My current car gets 5-9 MPG, no worries

Jsargenvt, check your local motor vehicle rules about inspections and regastrations before you begin.
johncoker, didn't build it, bought it and did a motor swap. Heard the wiring is the worst. You do need to know cars and be able to install rear ends, clutches, brakes etc.

First car (well, truck) - '69 Ford F100. With the 390 ci V8. Lots of power with no weight over the drive wheels. Tons of fun for a 16 year old. Kept a stack of tires in the garage and learned how to mount my own tires.

Cool cars - '83 Alfa Romeo GTV6 - about 3/4 of the way taken apart to get painted.
'73 Alfa Romeo GTV - In the garage waiting on a total restoration.
'88 Alfa Romeo Spider (really the wife's)

I had (3) 1969 El Camino's but this was my last one with a numbers matching 396/350hp engine

Two 'Vettes and a Firebird.
Neener neener.

Actually I had a 1980 Firebird, that's why I got the model.
My only sports car.
Turned heads everywhere I went, even though it was a stock V6 with base trim.
One of my co-workers said she got a Camaro after seeing me drive in to work in my car.
IIRC got about 12-13 mpg.
Heh.

My 1st car, Really . I970 Ford Cyclone Spoiler1970_Ford_Cyclone_Spoiler.jpg 4 speed 429 CobraJet Ram AIr. 370/375 HP. Got it when I was 17. I used to street race people for money. ONly car I lost to was a 454 Corvette. I did beat a 340 6 pack Dodge Duster . Later I had a 1969 Ford Mustang with a 351 cubic in Windsor Block . Not as powerful as a Cleveland Block. After that I had a 1973 Ford Mustang.

In high school I had a 69 mustang fastback with 200 inline six. Looked fast but it wasn’t.
Senior year into college days it was a 1967 Cougar XR7 with 390 big block.
First real job I bought a brand new 1990 Eagle Talon TSI...great little car. Traded it for a mini van when we started having kids. A few years later it was a 1994 5.0 Mustang GT, but then I saw a 1987 Grand National for sale.

I‘ve had the GN for about 20yrs now and I’ll never sell it. Love that car!

I had a 1969 el Camino also. 350 Malibu. It was a really nice car/truck....very powerful and fast. Had to put a few bags of sand over the rear wheel wells to get good traction off the line. They are worth a fortune today.

Awesome wheelie!
What year is that one? I had an '89 5.0 but it was all stock.

Mine was also an '89, but it was no where resembling stock, except for what sheet metal was left.

As shown it was a 454 CID Ford small block with billet heads. Made around 2300-2500HP as shown. Had a dual certified cage for the speeds it would reach, depending on chassis weight.

My fastest time was a 4.42 in the 1/8 at about 175MPH. I broke 200 in the 1/4, but had fuel issues.

Someone else wanted my stuff more than I did, so I got out of it.

How could it be a Ford 454 big block? Wouldn't you have to start with a big-block motor first, then bore it out? Seems strange to hear 454 associated with a Ford instead of Chevy ... Incredible HP numbers though.

Dayum, if you got 454cid out of a small block, I'd like to see those cylinder walls from the bore job!!!!

hobie, not necessarily, maybe.......I know for certain you can take a SBF to 408cid, and I THINK you can go 427cid also......so maybe 454 isn't so far fetched from a SBF. My '68 Cougar has a 393 SBF(bored and stroked 351W), which is also strange to hear for a Ford.....should be 390, but......🤷

No, it was a 4.185" stroke, 4.175"ish bore.

It was a 9.5" deck height Windsor block--Not remotely close to stock. It was a SBF in engine design only.

You should see the tall deck small block chevy's they have now. 500 CID+. A large part of why I got out is because I was competing against many more cubic inches.
