Soon I will be starting my next project of 7.5" Blue Tube rocket and glassing for first time. The spirals on the larger tubes are pretty big and on my 6" build I spent many hours and tubes of spot putty/glazing to to fill them. After watching tfish38's laminating video I figured it would be cheaper and quicker to just glass the tubes to fill the spirals for a smoother finish. So on this 7.5" build I thought I would just do a 2 wraps of .75oz plain weave then the release film in tfish's video. The problem is that the release film they have is 37.5" but I'll be glassing 48" tubes and doing a search I can't seem to find any in 48" or preferably 50".
Does anyone know where I can find the release film in the width needed or could I just use 2 pieces of the 37.5" and overlap it a couple inches as I apply it?

Comments,suggestions,or advice much welcomed......THX!

Will their release fabric leave a smooth finish like the film. That's the desired result I would like to keep down sanding and filling.

Release will leave a texture.

If you want smooth, you want Mylar. Or, basket wrap from a craft store -- apply a thin film of paste wax to it, then wrap, cover the edges with masking tape, then hit it with a hair dryer to shrink it down tight.

BTW, the answer to your "I can't find it in the right width" is to use the roll of release lengthwise.....

OMFG Well freakin duh me LMAO! Sometimes it helps to not get stuck inside the box.....THX Kevin for pointing out how mentally challenged I am at times!

If you are using .75oz cloth, there is no need for peel ply. It is light enough, that after it is on, a few coats of primer will make it smooth. You will spend more time sanding off the peel ply texture than priming the rocket :2:.
Good Luck!

I'm going to give Kevin's method a try on a scrap 4" tube first and see how that works.Sounds like that will get the result I'm looking for instead of the peel ply.
