Then it's easy. Comply with FAR 101, and the California State Fire Marshal. Since you say you're in CA, those are the two main things you need to worry about.

I think you have reloads without cases, though. Once installed in a case, there's no indication what kind it was unless you have leftover packaging. They may not even burn without being in a case.

If your not really interested in the hobby, you could get $175-$200 selling those reloads. Go out to a launch, or advertise them on this site. If you don't go to a launch and someone would be interested they would have to be picked up or hand deliverd to that person, as they are also illegal to ship. Do you have motor cases for any of these??

If your questions are not being answered to your satisfaction here, there are other avenues you could try. Have you checked out YORF? Lots of patient folks over there dedicated to rocketry. I'd recommend you seek out a user by the name of "ghrocketman" specifically. He's a very knowledgeable fellow, doesn't come here due to all the non-rocketry related stuff.

Yes, finding a local high power club is the best bet. They have the FAA waivers (verify with the members - some clubs only fly small stuff), the launch equipment, people that can help you learn best practices of rocket building, vendors that sell parts, etc. Even if you go as a spectator a few times to learn and see what it is about, it will be well worth it.

Safety first. I agree that you local club is a good source of info. The last thing you want to do is risk lives and or property.

Even in the desert, someone owns the land, whether that be a person or the government, and you need permission to use it. The club I fly with, Rocketry Organization of California, discovered last year that they had been flying from a part of the Lucerne Valley Dry Lake that they had not been permitted to use, so they had to cancel launches until they got their permits sorted out. Now they have to actually set up in a different location from before to be on publicly owned land that they have permission to use. It's a few hundred yards away, but in the law's eye, that matters.

In California NO model rocketry activity can occur unless you have written permission of the local fire authority for the area where you wish to launch. Period, end of story. You have to go to whoever that "local fire authority" is (may be your city fire chief, may be the county, may be the state - all depends on who has jurisdiction over the land in question) before you even think about launching any type of model rocket that uses a combustible agent for propulsion. Failure to do so can land you in serious hot water with the Office of the State Fire Marshal. I sincerely doubt that you want to mess with that level of trouble given the sensitivity in this state to fire dangers. Not to mention that drawing the current State Fire Marshal's attention to our hobby will NOT win you any friends given what happened the last time someone did so.

Do yourself a favor and sell those motors to someone who has a clue. Best way I can think of for you to NOT go back to jail.

I gotta think that you can ignite them without casings (they burn just as easily outside the casing as they do inside) and when you do you have a very nasty landshark.

That's actually a perfectly reasonable thing to ask. What harm is there in asking for proof that he isn't a troll?

If we knew what reloads you had, we could give you an good estimate of how much $$$ you could make off of them.

Really? A reload WITHOUT a case is just a flammable material.....it will burn. It won't landshark, or go anywhere. They BURN! They don't explode(unless you drop the blackpowder in there). The only way for a motor to go anywhere is to be inside the case with a nozzle attached. You know, for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

Personally, I think the whole thing is a brilliant little marketing scheme. Guy has a few motors and a need to generate some cash, creates an online persona, starts an outrageous thread and gets people's attention, has an accomplice to defend him and create more stir, eventually backs off a bit and "thinks about" just selling them, the sharks move in with cash in hand and offers, a deal is struck, and chaching - Paypal racks up another commission fee.
