The battery choice is less of a question "will it pop an e-match", rather it's more of a "battery/altimeter compatibility" question, combined with it's ability to not "brown out" during said "pop". Battery/Altimeter compatibility is driven by many factors (voltage overhead of "typical" polarity protection and regulator stages, on-board capacitors, steering/isolation diodes, other pyro/logic power handling considerations, logic and mCU power demands, etc....)

Best to ask the manufacturer, or empirically validate the use of the battery.

My FB is flying an Adept22/DDC22 system in an Executioner modified for DD. We thoroughly ground tested this using a 20c 500mah 2 cell Lipo. A 2cell lipo fully charged is 8.2-8.4v. If memory serves me correctly the weight savings is .6oz. over a 9v. With that success, I tested a 30c 250mah 2 cell Lipo with a DDC22 in a single deploy arrangement. This also tested well and I now have several flights with this arrangement. I believe this was close to an ounce in weight savings. I have tested these with the battery voltage as low as 7.7v (which is the storage voltage of a 2 cell) without issue. I have not flown at that voltage however, just wanted to test it at the storage voltage. The size/weight is not really important in the Executioners, but now I have built a BT60 Avbay and the battery size/weight made a significant difference. We use a 3cell 1300mah lipo for our launch controllers. No big battery to lug around. HAV

Great info. I will asked what 2 cells are that I have seen used. It was 8.4 volts.

It has a capacitor, you can clearly see it in the picture under the word model, and they say "Do not substitute an external battery with a voltage less than 7 volts. A 2-cell Li-Po battery should be sufficient, but complete pre-testing will be necessary."

According to Tommy (Adept), that does not supply current.

Also from Adept22 website... "...it does not have an on-board battery holder, nor a large current supplying capacitor, and it does not require or include an accessory interface cable. You asked for it - here you go."

I'm glad to read above some actual test reports with the Adept and LiPo's. That was info that up until now,... I have been unable to find. Thanks!

You can wire a 3300 uF capacitor in parallel with the battery if your battery is not putting out enough current. That the recommendation Tommy gave me anyway. I'm using three CR1632 lithium coil cells, hence the need for the capacitor.

I was recently considering using a DDC22 (only) in my Wildman Jr. instead of a Adept22. The reason for this is because I was going to put my Jolly Logic ALT2 in there so I didn't have to count beeps. Anyone see a problem with this?

No problem. I checked the DDC22 would work stand alone and fire charges. If you do not care about the altitude it is great with nothing else - great for mid power reseach. With another Alt supplying altitude data, it is a bonus.

I was told they do not use resellers when I ordered mine.

I was inquiring about volume discounts. They said the price was wholesale already, but did discount some groups 10% for 10 or more. I assume this meant Boy Scouts or something (and not me). Did not confirm. The prices are great to begin with so it is tough to complain.

I'd pay the extra $10 for the Adept22. This way you are not risking your JL-2 every flight.

True, but if you want the other info from the JL2 you'll be including it anyway. On the other hand, my JL2 has a habit of timing out and shutting down, so some flights it doesn't read out. The Adept22 is very reliable, and counting the beeps isn't that hard. If you have high-end hearing loss and can't hear the beeps well, you'll also have trouble hearing that it's armed at the pad. In that case you'll want to pick up a cheap stethoscope or bring someone with younger ears (or who went to fewer rock concerts than I did) to the pad with you.

Just in case anyone was looking to order one of these like I was, they are out of stock at the moment.....Be about 2 weeks before they have more. Just an FYI so they aren't getting hit with more emails than they need be.

They do have the DDC22 though. Mine shipped out yesterday.

I'm looking at the Adept22 as I don't have another altimeter like you do. I want my beeps! :) I may actually add a DDC22 later on though. Or just buy both when I order.

I wonder how many of the DDC22's they're selling. $10 for altitude read out seems like a good deal to me, especially when it's so cheap to begin with.

I don't know how many they would sell to people that already have multiple altimeters, but for someone like Green Jello with one, or like me with none, I think it is about as cheap as you can get for a backup. I'll still look at picking up one of the new RRC3's when they come out, maybe even a Raven. But I don't need all that output at this point and time.

thanks for the heads up. it looks like rocketry warehouse has them in stock.

For me...this is my first ever DD setup. So I'll go cheap and easy on this one and I plan on getting a RRC3 probably when they come out and the DDC22 will be a redundant setup.

I just went to order one and noticed the price went up $6. I guess I should have ordered one last week! :D

yep. they need to update their website as it still shows $39 on at least one page.

it also says it includes the mounting hardware and a battery holder. is that new?

Yes, I just paid extra for the mounting hardware and there was no battery holder.

Well I guess that explains the price increase. However I think I like the old way better and save $6 as I don't need a battery holder and mounting hardware.
