W0W! Them's some changes! Will take a day or two to get used to it, colors and all, but I think I like it...

Not a fan at all. I hope (think) there is a very good reason for changing it. Hey, at least we didn't loose our post count...that's the most important part right?

Looks exactly like "Redlines online" I.E. Toy car exchange. It'll take getting used to, but the old look was superior; stood out from the other sites.

Yes, the over all functionality is pretty good also. Thumbs up for the most part. I guess if there was anything I thought might seem a little redundant is the "Started By" in front of everyone's handle.

Will we ever be able to personalize the style(s)? The box in the lower left of the web page says this is the default vB4 style. I played with the "mobile" and "grid menu" styles, too. After poking around at this, I like it better than the new gmail scheme.

Hey!!! My post just auto-saved.
Nice work everyone!!!!

Me likey. The retro look is cool. But can you find a way to blend the advertisements into the retro theme? There's no border around the ad box, no graphics, no nothing. I just see an ad on a blue background, and it seems out of place.

We discussed what to do with that, and there's no "one size fits all" answer. It's up to the advertisers to decide if they want to modify their ad to fit in better.

There's no simple border you could put around the ad box? Don't change the ads themselves, just put a border around the spot where the ads go. But whatever, the forum looks good no matter what.

NOT,,,a web programmer, but how difficult would it be to create a retro frame (like a cinema screen, etc) and have the ads vertically scroll from one to the next?

Overall, I love it so far...

Carousels are pretty easy -- lots of code out there to do them. They work well for static images (we use them at the day job). The ads here are a mix of formats, including Flash, and the Flash ads need to be visible for the duration of the animation, which presents issues with the carousel.

Ahhh...gotcha Kev! Appreciate the explanation. Again, I think the ads are fine, just brainstorming on a couple of the comments above

I really like the retro logo and the new feel. The navigation work nicely. I like it.

While I like the new look generically, it is a shock to the system. I'm one of them old dogs :) I'm sure I'll get used to it soon. I have one slight problem to report. I use Chrome and when I select 'notifications' on the top, the drop down menu disappears behind the ad. Don't know how easily fixable this is. Don't know if the mods care. Don't know if I care. Just reporting it.

Yep, we care. :)

That's a z-order problem; I know how to fix it -- I've dealt with it on other sites. Just gotta find where that setting is in the ad software.

The new graphics and all are fine, no worse than before. However I have two things I would like to see changed. One is to have the appearance of the icons that indicate whether or not there are new posts in a forum be more distinct. They look almost identical, with just a very slight and subtle color difference and it is hard to quickly tell if there are new posts or not. It would be much better if the new posts icon had a color that would stand out more. The second problem is that it would be nice if when I select the Forum Tool "Mark This Forum Read" that it would do so and then send me back to the main list of forums automatically. This is the way it works on all the other forums I read and it would be very convenient if this one would behave the same.

Nice job we team. I'm sure the visual differences will recede from my consciousness soon enough. One question though: In each post in this thread (and presumably everywhere else) there's a little document item that when you hover over it, it says Default. Seems like it takes up real estate uncessarily. Any way to turn that off?
HEre's a pic of what I'm talking about:

If you head to the "advanced" reply editor page thingy, you can choose a different icon and add a title to your post which appears in the space next to it, so it's not entirely wasted space. It's just not very apparent that you can fiddle about with it from the quick-reply editor at the bottom of the page.

Cheers,
Phil
