This is unironically why I look outside in winter and smile. All the bugs are dead and I don't have to mow the lawn for a few months, and I live in an area where it gets cold enough for these advantages, but it doesn't snow much.

And where relief from the bugs would be worth a bunch more snow than you get, I happen to know.

Likewise, no scorpions, few poisonous snakes, no fire ants, no hurricanes, etc.

I'm not sure I follow that. No scorpions, few venomous snakes, no fire ants? Sure. No hurricanes? Not so fast. The Virginia coast gets plenty of hurricanes. Sometimes a little hurricane is welcome because it blows the mosquitos away (for a little while).

Virginia is seven or eight hours southeast of me.
