I use masking tape from McMaster. For Estes motors, 1/4" thrust rings. I friction fit the motors. I have a scaled down Ultimate that flies great on 7 E9-8 or E12-8 motors. These are E9-6, motor ejection

You're right. I don't know a commercial BP motor that a tape thrust ring will not reliably work with. They also work well with my 7.5" BP motors holding 60g propellant and putting out quite a few more Newtons than Estes' motors can achieve.
Some tapes are heat sensitive, for instance I've noticed that some duct tape sticks very well until you get above 100 degrees F then it starts to get soft. For BP motors is the thrust stage finished before the heat has conducted through the motor casing to get to the tape?

Seems to me the aft ~1/2” of the paper casing stays cooler than the rest, since it’s insulated by the clay nozzle, and doesn’t have burning BP inside at that point.
