19k feet call in waiver, not as good as kloudbusters, but then again, it's not tooo far from edwards AFB and kinda in the flight path for flights coming into LA from the east. Actually when i was there in november, the call in waiver was granted, the pad was active, and a plane comes flying right over the mountains...the rocket failed anyway, but like come on cali :D

Yeah, but the local club has 20k standing and 35k call in, so I don't really feel motivated to come for the waiver. The driving to your rocket after flight is really nice though - that's something that we can't do at the local club. I'll also have to see what my summer schedule is like (I don't know for sure yet).

then come for the atmosphere :D

and pff, one weekend :D thats a nice waiver :O +it coincides with ROCstock (biannual ROC event) so it'll be great :D

and come on, we can have a TRF meet and greet. me with my one terrible 38mm rocket i have yet to build, you with your avatar picture rocket, and bandman with his king kraken :D

you with your avatar picture rocket

That's a good point...

I haven't flown it since LDRS 28 (NY), and I have a pair of K805 Mojave Green motors in the basement for it already (so I don't need to buy any additional motors). That could be a lot of fun.

but like come on cali :D

don't even get me started!

Don't come to California because I have kraken and edwin has a psycho rocket (although I think you might be into that) I think it was troj who's now famous comment says something like "its not about the rockets we fly its the people who really make this hobby what it is". So basically come here to see my pretty face again!:p

Although you could help me get my larger rocket off the ground.
I'll post on there sometime later today about where that project is at and I haven't mentioned that I got a wild child kit for christmas too. I'm drag racing it against my friends friends Formula 54. I know mine will win... no erwin your invited.lol I go against you head on head later!

haha i don't even have the airframe components yet. got a couple computer repair gigs after the new year, so that should get me enough money to continue my build thread, then i just need an altimiter :)

Great work!! Marking and cutting the fins is a milestone and is the hardest and funest part of building a Kraken. Are you thinking of making a DD AV-bay for your Kraken? If so the 13" piece works well as the upper airframe except you dont want to glue the coupler in because it makes it hard to replace the ejection charges. I usualy screw the upper tube to the AV-bay with a few small screws. I built my latest Kraken DD and it flew great.

Ya the kit stopped coming with the long tubes and instead comes with three 17" tubes and one 13" tube and a coupler (13+17 adds to the main airframe) and the 2x17 is the 34"
I think it also cuts down on shipping too.

You hit that one right on the head....
Shipping 34" tubes puts a hurt on the wallet. Besides, this way you have more to glue together.

:)

not dual deploy but I'm just in it for the altitude and tracking data. but I see what your talking about

also for anyone out there listening who's not level one certified this is the kit when I bought my level one kit the requirement for me was that it can fly on G motors H motors I motors and the occasional J motor. this thing fits the bill! the reason that was a requirement to me was so that I could first test it out (G) get my cert (H) have some fun (I) level two (J)

Few kits can do that all without you level two going to the moon or putting a 2 second delay on the G.

I see that every one has the same paint job (black outside red inside) is that mandatory? ill probably do it cuz it's easy but I was just curious

Nah....
Black and red are not required...
That just happened to be the best combo I found for the KK. There have been green ones, purple ones and some that would make your eyes explode if you saw them.

Use you imagination and show us something new.

There not all black and red some are kind of a blue green :y:

Or.... you can make it easy and not?

But i meant more about keeping it in sight rather than the electronics.

Anyway I promised myself that I would work on something each day, no matter what. So today I worked on the squidly fins for the nosecone (is nose cone one word or two?)

I first cut the holes witha sharp exacto knife

All rules from above apply yet again and yes Jim you can use your chainsaw (to bad he doesn't read this, oh well)

I make sure to measure twice cut once and the result is a perfect fit! I almost don't need glue!

Thats what they look like when they are done. I'm not going to sand or bevel them at all.

So today I was with my dad at the Local Hardware Store and I found a small tub of Elmer's Carpenters Wood Filler for Interior and Exterior....and my question is will that fill spirals and make a good sand-able fillet maker?

2010-12-28%2020.42.19.jpg

I'v never worked with the stuff but the small print on the back seemed promising. Its not the epoxy clay that Apogee recommends but I think ifit will work I can apply in the "Apogee endorsed" method in this YouTube video.

I want to use this stuff to get a nice finish on my 7.5 inch rocket build, PML's tubing has HUGE, DEEP spirals and before I get it painted on them filled.

Thanks again guys, keep the posts coming (Preferably more about Krakens and my questions...Edwin)

I will be out at the march launch with a full plate to fly and this project only makes it longer....TARC rocket....first "K" motor....this king kraken....my level one kit with a camera and a I269?skid in it (or whatever the 38mm 5G cesaroni skid is....TARC rocket again....

you wouldn't happen to be going Andy?

I would like to go but with all the rain Im not sure the lake will be dry by then  Im looking forward to the next launch because the last KK launch was on a CTI J-760 to 6000' and Im not sure it broke mach so the next launch will be on a K-940!! I may just have to save it for Dairy Aire at TCC. Although its a four hour drive East to ROC or four hours North to TCC I feel lucky to live half way between two of the best rocket clubs around.

I used the Elmer's wood filler on my Sirius Interrogator. Seems to work well for me. Here's a (phone camera fuzzy) picture. Sands easy enough but does create a bit of dust.

I'm partial to fluorescent pink airframes with fluorescent green tube linings.

Very easy to spot in the air and on the ground.

What details do you have on that Kraken Its must not be stock and must have a 54mm mount.

Yea I had a piece of 54mm left over that somehow found its way in there:rolleyes: Not to different from the standard KK except its out of BlueTube and I made a stepped rear centering ring to cary the thrust out to the body tube. And it's a little longer so it can fit up to a 4 grain motor. It ended up measuring 22" for the booster the Payload is 12.5" and the nosecone is 15".

Selected the Kraken/K-Kraken combo with my December Rocket of the Month win--can't wait to get them in!

Pffft, 19k. That's WEAK, We get 20,600 here in Idaho! That's right! A whole 1600 feet extra :p

Tell Ya'll what. When I get my driver's license, I'll make a trip to california for a launch. Hopefully somebody will be there willing to share their L2.

Braden

I wish I could do that. Unfortunately, I don't think my parents would be thrilled about me driving several days alone with rockets in the back...

Maybe someday, then a King Kraken drag race is needed.

What grade are you in Braden?

I'm a freshman, I should have my license now, but my parents thought it would be more fair if my older sister took drivers ed first. She has not driven once since she got her permit:eyeroll:

I don't think my parents would be concerned about the rockets part, just the driving a long distance part.
