I'm by no means an expert wood turner, I learn new techniques every time I make a part.

I know a few other folks here also have a wood lathe and use it to make rocket parts, so I thought I'd start sharing some of the methods I've found work for me.

Photo's show a BT-55 nose cone, but this technique would be applicable to other sizes also. A BT-55 is 1.325" Outside Diameter... which is a perfect size for using a pine 2" x 2" (1.50" x 1.50") as the raw material.

Here's how I finish sand the nose cone after parting it off from the 2 x 2.
