I understand there is a new version available, I currently have version 22.02. Should I just erase this version and re download or is there a secret location in OR to make it upgrade itself? I couldn't find anything in the menus.

When in doubt... build hell-for-stout!
Just go to https://openrocket.info/ and click on "version 23.09", it'll download the upgrade.
I believe the installer will overwrite the old version.
BTW the way to get at the new version from inside the program is in preferences, "General" tab, "Check Now" button. And check the box that says "automatically check for updates" so you'll know when a new one is available.

It gives the option of overwriting or keeping both versions.
