Had this design around for a long time in different variations. 3x18 and 24mm, with and without 'pods', various fins numbers....

Just getting the 'kit' cut out from wood for all the fins. Got'st just about everything else gathered up.

I had to soak a little CA into both sides of the balsa before cutting the trailing gussets or they would just split.


The main fin and the trailing gusset


And then there were three


The leading edges


Everything cut. The ring supports in basswood, strakes in balsa, and the fins in balsa.


Here is our 'kit' so far. Ready to join the fin segments, smooth the joints and seal

Do you prefer CA on balsa over Elmer's? I've used Elmer's a lot, with good results, was curious about CA.

No. The CA is to harden the balsa so it does not split. Small pieces in light balsa, even with a sharp knife seem to split on the very ends when cutting them.

So here is the tubes with the bondo spot putty, final fin drying... then sanded ... now for the fin papering.
